Honestly, I like the ultraman because of its look, packaging n gimmicks n my own soft spot on Ultraman series. I do not care about Speedy Tuesday or Hodinkee, in fact better to do without for me

Without SpeedyTuesday, you wouldn’t have an Ultraman (the 2018 model) to like...

Without SpeedyTuesday, u still have Omega, it is not space rocket design after all. The donut Alaska or the Meteorite Soyuz for example are no less innovative

You specifically called out a model which would not exist if it weren’t for SpeedyTuesday.

You can’t have it both ways.

Man, that watch sure is unleashing all kinds of emotional reactions... a lot of it driven by the fact that members here are not too big fans of the editorial line taken by Ben's site the past few years. RJ's (who is watching this thread closely to sense what will work or not work for ST3... 😉 ) Fratello gets more love on OF, and this is totally understandable.

Still like the watch! 😁

I have always liked the Mk40, it has a certain 80s feel about it which always appeals to me. That said I have never tried one on but it is on my list of potential purchases. As for this new LE, I quite like the design. It adds a certain symmetry that the Mk40 doesn’t have.

And I love it. Sometimes (often) I just shrug shoulders and get another coffee, sometimes I feel the need to write something to but most of the time I like it very much. So many different views make this a hobby or passion worthwhile, what I cannot stand is intolerance and brand (or people) bashing. That doesn't make sense imho.

In the meanwhile, I am wearing my 1982 bi-color Constellation 'Manhattan' quartz that nobody likes but me and I am perfectly fine with that.

Can I politely suggest, beg even that the inspiration for the next ST Omega doesn’t come from that direction.

Out of interest did either of your grandfathers own or give you an Omega? 😉

😁 Don't worry. The ST3 will top them all. Promised.

Please

That is a bit too much like the ST2 don't you think? I would like to see a Blue soleil dial LE maybe.

Please! Although I wouldn't like anything messed with so perhaps this will have to wait for Omega to revisit in 2020?

Honestly since you shared the above image in that article I've never got it out of my mind.

......and I think the point that it seems to be so polarising could be in its favour in the long run. I’d rather be allied with a cult classic than a mainstream success anyday.
But I am definitely on the other side of the fence to you regards this one though.....sorry! I’m loving your passion for it though.
The original 'Paul Newman' Daytona is rare today because it was not liked originally, sat on store shelves unsold... today they hit records at auction.

I'm perfectly fine being 'different' in actually liking this watch while most people hate it.

I have always been drawn to the colours of the MK40 (sounds like most of the OF community doesn't... fine by me)

I prefer the 3 subdials at 3, 6 and 9 positions (so this version is better for me than the MK40)

I like simpler dials (so this version again better, others seem to prefer the complications of the MK40... yet few want to own one... 🤔 )

I very much like the bubbly alpha numerals (see my current avatar from my Bulova diver).

If I had designed this watch, I would have minimized or eliminated the seconds marking around the perimeter of the dial and moved the numerals outward and then I would have made them a beautiful fauxtina as we see on lovely vintage watches. (that's just me, and I know I'm pretty much on my own for liking this thing in the first place... my teachers always told me I was a bit 'different'..) ::psy::

Now we know at least who is partly responsible for THIS. Yes you’re really DIFFERENT than us too.

I have a hard time connecting the fact that the PN hit records today with the fact that they were not liked originally. I do not see any other reason than fashion, trend and communication to explain why a valjoux 22 or whatever gets sold for 200K these days. So, if in 50 years or so, people decide that they the-only-vintage-watch-to-buy is a speedmaster that does not look like a speedmaster but which is similar to an old one, with funky colours, and a coloured subdial at 9 o'clock that is useless, then this is probably the watch to buy today? In the meantime, I'll buy other watches.

That's not what 'netted' means. This watch grossed $3.25 million. I gather Omega gets more of that than Hodinkee since they made the product and got to sell half through non-Hodinkee chanels.
Ah, that must be why I'm not rich yet.

Yes, this LE watch trend is boring, not the discussion here in OF. And these watches are boring because they come as a result of lack of creativity. Panerai, AP, Hublot, many brands have done it before. And honestly, this move cheapens the image of Omega as a luxury brand in my opinion.
I looked up the definition of 'boring' as it doesn't seem like the right word to me...
bor·ing
ˈbôriNG/
adjective
  1. not interesting; tedious. "I've got a boring job in an office"
When I look through the list of apparent 'synonyms', then I guess your use of the word makes more sense...

synonyms: tedious, dull, monotonous, repetitive, unrelieved, unvaried, unimaginative, uneventful;
characterless, featureless, colorless, lifeless, insipid, uninteresting, unexciting, uninspiring, unstimulating, uninvolving;
unreadable, unwatchable; jejune, flat, bland, dry, stale, tired, banal, lackluster, stodgy, vapid, monochrome, dreary, humdrum, mundane;
mind-numbing, wearisome, tiring, tiresome, irksome, trying, frustrating; informal deadly, ho-hum, dullsville, dull as dishwater, plain-vanilla
"a boring one-man play"

Launching LE watches every now and then is predictable, not the watch itself.
In other words, a profit maximizing enterprise is trying to maximize profits... the nerve! 😁

Hodinkee has proved to be a very successful business. I used to read them in the past when this site was a respectable independent watch blog. Not anymore. Now is just a site selling watches and accessories.
I suspect this is a big underlying reason behind many people's dislike for this LE...

It's funny, the reason some give for hating 'this' particular LE is the fact that Ben isn't really anyone 'special' and therefore doesn't deserve a commemorative LE. I guess for me that's part of the allure, I like the idea that ordinary people can within a decade go from obscurity to having a popular blog/website and reach the level where a corporate entity like Omega is willing to work with them to recognize their achievement. I'm not a fan of people like the Kardashian's getting famous for what I consider no legitimate reason, but a guy like Ben (or Robert-Jan) who has brought valued content into the watch collecting world, that I am a big fan of. 👍
