Omega speedmaster 105.003 or 012 box?

I am not keen that it is a Speedmaster because I don't own one and have no plans to buy one of the earlier examples as they are just too expensive for my taste. I am mainly interested in the bracelet as I want to use it for a Constellation 14393.

If I look at the facts this box was used for Speedmasters. I never claimed that they were standard nor that they fit perfectly. But if I look at the evidence, they were used for some Speedmasters, including the one I bought (why would the owner lie to me about which watch was originally bought with it when it was lost in the 1970s already?).

@Sturmvogel Roger, if you try to put a Moonwatch Speedmaster in this box, dial towards you (as one would expect to see a watch in a presentation box) this box won't close. Like @eugeneandresson showed above. I also have one and can make another photo. There aren't several box sizes available with this design : when you'll try yourself you'll get the same result.

If you like the idea of this box being the correct box, however your watch has to sit dial backwards in order for this box to close, fine, but it's obviously not what we'd expect from a presentation box.

With a Constellation it will work perfectly. IMO the "World renowned" boxes are Constellation boxes.

If I look at the facts this box was used for Speedmasters.

If you talk with Antony or Gr茅goire (MWO Authors) they will laugh about that boxes section of MWO and change topic. That's not something you can use as facts 馃槈

My point is not about whether I or anybody likes it or not, I want to understand if this box was really used for some Speedmasters. I also don't have plans to use it with a Speedmaster so I don't really care if it was a Speedmaster box or not. As I said, my interest is in the bracelet only. But still, I'd like to understand more about it. Fact is:

- It may not fit well
- There are at least two Speedmasters documented that came with this box
- Moonwatch Only apparently found one or several examples where this box type was used for 145.012

Now you can like that or not, but it is based on evidence and not opinions or emotions.

- It does not fit well
- There are at least two Speedmasters observed that came with this box that doesn't close properly when the watch is placed face towards you
- Moonwatch Only apparently observed one or several examples where this box type was used for 145.012 with the same cons and never affirmed they were originally intended for Speedmaster since the dealers were putting the watches in boxes they had on stock back then

FIFY 馃榾

But all in all it's just a Sturm im Wasserglas since @Sturmvogel is not intending to use this box with a Speedmaster.

I never disputed the fact that it doesn't fit, but evidence indicates that the box type was used indeed for a few Speedmasters. I don't know why, but there are at least two example documented.

For posterity to the next guy who comes here asking for help on the same topic, please show us this documented evidence (and no, a Moonwatch-only picture is not evidence edit: in the case of these boxes) that overrules the following documented evidence...

I just wrote you why, underlined, above 馃榾

OK, thanks. I saw it now. That makes sense and explains why some Speedmasters came with this box.

I posted the link to one example (just click on it). The other one is the man from whom I bought it. I can't ask him for a signed statement, but I fully believe him. His father was on an aircraft carrier as flight officer and got the Speedmaster at the end of his duty.

Thats not evidence, thats in response to another question, just like yours, and the member who suggested it said 'could'.

I assume he did try and close it, and also was just as puzzled as to the poor fit.

The other one is the man from whom I bought it.

Some guy 'said'. Also not documented proof / evidence.

Don't get me wrong, it could well be possible, as people have mentioned, that any box was grabbed and the watch slapped in it at some dealer who did not care less, but that does not mean its the correct box, especially when it doesn't fit.

I agree a) the box does not fit and b) it is not the standard or correct box issued with the Speedmaster, but at least as far as I am concerned I have more evidence (or you can say indications if you feel more comfortable with that) that it was used on a few examples than I have evidence that it was never used with the Speedmaster. That's enough for me unless somebody can show evidence that it was never sold with a Speedmaster.

If you had read my last post you would know that I don鈥檛 disagree with anybody here. I did not claim that it fits the Speedmaster, but quite the opposite (read my a) statement). I believe, however, that some Speedmasters were sold with this box based on the plausible reasons indicated by you. Thanks.

It may be, since the box was used in the same period. But unless I would find a speedmaster from the very first owner coming with that box, personally I would not buy it to store a speedmaster.

I wouldn鈥檛 either. But still either some shops sold or some Speedmaster owner bought such boxes for their SMs even if it wasn鈥檛 reasonable.

And I鈥檓 glad to hear that it fits a Constellation as that鈥檚 what I have and wanted the bracelet for.

I have both watches and the box in question.
First the 105.012 then the 2998

the box is open in both cases (pun) 3mm for the 105.012 and 1mm for the 2998
