The one pictured is a vintage Isofrane Ashley, hard to find now and stupidly expensinve, but imho well worth looking for. The modern isofrane straps are good tho, but not quite as good as the original.. aint that always the way 馃檨

Ahk I'd read that, but always had this image of vintage rubber being brittle and fragile compared to modern stuff.

Well depends on how its been looked after and what solvents have been used on it, but mainly ive seen nice condition vintage isofranes.

Hi all, I was just surfing around the net looking at Omega SM 300 watches and came across this Review. Great write up, Ash .... thanks. Always good to look at watches.

Here are my SM 300's. The vintage is a 1966 and the watchco has a heart of a 1968 dated 565 movement. I have the original bracelet for the '66 and an Omega mesh for the '68 but don't use them. I prefer Nato's (at present).

I am toying with the idea of replacing the watchco date dial with the no date version (as I prefer no date's). However I'm unsure it will fit with the 565. I'll have to research more.....

Sorry for the poor quality pics. I am looking for a good camera for close up work.... anyone have a suggestion please pm me.

Ok,...never been on any forums before but enjoyed this find and may be late on this thread, I can add to issue of "stiff crown" on Seamaster 1660324. I assembled my own a year ago,........from parts acculated from various sources. Trickiest was finding NOS stem for cal 565 and then cutting it to proper length so that it was not too long when crown is srewed down and not too short to allow date change action . ( next tricky part is setting on hands but thats another story.) My crown is very stiff, thought I had things misaligned and was stressing the stem but even after fine tuning it remains stiff. I thought maybe a "split stem" configuration was meant for, but I don't think that would improve it. I believe that Omega just makes the rubber crown seal especially tight on these new cases. Here's some pics of the project. My stiff crown does not bother me much as watch is accurate that I only adjust it when month has only 30 days.

While I am at it,.......here's pic of the cal 500 from my 57 Seamaster 18k that was in a safety deposit box for 50 years. ( I held my breath when opening the caseback the first time.

nicomega... I may have an answer to your problem... you may well have the wrong case for the movement. The SM300 comes in date and non-date versions, and the difference is the date... yeah, really.... bear with me. The reason is the datewheel means the date version needs to be different height for the crown so you need to set the crystal at a different height, and cos of that it is different. you can convert a date to non date (and vice versa) by changing the crystal, and i believe the rest remains the same. This will fix your issue I am sure.

I actually ended up selling the SM300 to fund the Seamaster Pie-Pan dress watch, much as I loved it, the 1680 Submariner got most of the wrist time.
