OMEGA FOIS Vs. Professional

Just passing through schiphol and I'm in the market for a FOIS. they had one in the OB. As an owner of a Pro lm used to that. I'd advise trying both on. I like the size of the FOIS so I will pick one up, but will get it used.

Number was 106xx so pretty recent I'd guess.

Re Sapphire vs hesalite, the Sapphire seems to add quite a bit of height, I prefer the hesalite, but can live with Sapphire. Hands not an issue as I plan on modding the FOIS (they are shiny, not helped by lightning in OB). not a huge fan of the strap. Totally love the case

I prefer the FOIS and I have one, but also plan on getting a Speedy Pro at some point as well. So my advice is get 'em both and problem solved.

I have the Pro and I wouldn't trade it for anything. However I did try on the FOIS, but the leather strap is much too short for my liking.

Al @Archer disagrees that this is as easy a swap as you suggest and has stated that the crystal case aperture is a different size between the Hesalite and sapphire models. If this is so then a Hesalite can indeed be made to fit but not without some way of seating it properly. A modified tension ring perhaps? This could adversely impact the water resistance and safety of the dial furniture if not done well. Until shown otherwise I personally see the crystal swap as a bit of a bodge, but am prepared to be persuaded otherwise of course.

Well my FOIS has that mod and Adam@Lewis Watch said that's how it was done. I still have the sapphire crystal.

"
With regards to the crystal, the case has not been modified. It can be returned to standard specification at any time. The watch has passed a pressure test and is resistant to the standard factory rating of 50m.
However, that is a pressure equivalent and not an actual depth rating. Hand washing, boating etc will be fine but not swimming, showering or diving. Yes the crystal has a tension ring as it is the standard crystal
used on the standard Speedmaster."

THREAD CLOSED. Cmon, close thread. Please. Thread? Close?

Eh?

Who exactly are you to shut us up when we are about to discuss something genuinely interesting. Yes that mod has been done and more than once. Is it a trivial mod or is it a bodge? I think we deserve to know?

both are great. I have an FOIS blue/white and love it.
What exactly is this? Sounds interesting. Actually it sounds rather like the CK2998 now I think about it!

I was making light of the first proclamation that the thread was closed.

Yes, ck2998. I was a little lazy with the numbers.

First I regretted now I am glad I have the FOIS.
Looks great on the nato with straight lugs. I’m going to have to try that!

I think it gives a different, more sporty look.
