Hi all, even though they are different watches I see some common feature between the FOIS and the new Speedy Tuesday LE that make them look, in some way, similar to me: leather strap, applied omega logo, overall vintage look... I was wondering the FOIS as my first Speedmaster, but now I see the Speedy Tuesday which is very nice too, I know it's already sold out so the problem doesn't exists, but I'd like to have your thoughts about a comparison between the two: which one will you choose if you could ? What are the best features of both ? And, is still the FOIS a great watch compared to the Speedy Tuesday ? Thank you all!
I don't see the appeal of the ST LE Something about the sub dials design that don't excite me whatsoever - between these two, I'll stick with the FOIS anytime of the day. ..and since every thread requires photos....
Personally, I find both of them absolutely gorgeous. I wanted my next watch to be a Speedmaster and was trying to decide between the original Moonwatch and the FOIS when Speedy Tuesday suddenly came speeding along. I was lucky enough to get to reserve one, so for me that's "the one." If I had missed the narrow window, I likely would have become a very happy FOIS owner and enjoyed that every bit as much.
I was treading the same path. The dead gorgeous FOIS on my radar for 2017 and then the SpeedyTuesday turned up and I managed to get a reservation. I still see space in my collection for the FOIS down the road and there have been so many made that I am pretty sure it will be quite easy to get one in 2018/2019.
Love the FOIS with modded hands... (on Reddit, not mine!) https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/4fk28n/omega_speedmaster_fois_sort_of_first_step_of/
They are different beasts both paying tribute to different parts of Speedmaster History. The FOIS is a retro throwback with modern appeal. The Tuesday is pure fan service to 68-80 with some modern nods. Most of the features on the Tuesday are lost on non hardcore speedy collectors. Let's be honest radial dials are not the most attractive subdials but it means something to Fratello and the watch was in many ways a tribute to Fratello and their impact on the Speedmaster.
More legible certainly, but IMO less attractive and I don't think that in this case the extra legibility is worth it...then again that's a completely subjective thing anyway...
I have read similar comments before, but illegibility hasn't hit me yet while on my wrist...and I don't wear reading glasses...
Your eyes are probably much better than mine! I think the FOIS is a cool watch, just doesn't sing to me, and I find the hands, and mix of sub dial hands kinda offputting. But, if we all liked the same stuff, that would be really dull!
The FOIS looks good on the brown leather strap it comes with but I didn't love mine until I put it on an 1125 bracelet. With bracelet I'd vote FOIS. Without bracelet I'd vote ST LE.
Both great watches and both very different animals but both can also rock a bracelet too id have a FOIS too if I didn't have this one from '62 and am looking forward to the ST.
Has anyone yet heard the reason Omega chose to use the different hand on the constant seconds subdial on the FOIS? I know many have speculated, but has there been a clear answer yet?
Several variants of chronos have one style of hands for time telling and a different one for the chrono functions. Sometimes it's just the color match, but in this case, the cut of the hands.
