Even Patek had withdrawn the archive service, then an apology and the restart of the service

This watch is special to me. It is a 105.012-64, and the serial number also ends with 1964, which is the birth year of my father.

@RJBroer just confirmed on Fratello that EotA will be reinstated once the investigation surrounding the Franken 2915 is over. Great news!

Now the page has been entirely removed (link). Are we all still optimistic that the service will eventually return?

Personally I doubt it will. The extracts were only useful for the wrong purposes and adds no real upside for Omega as a brand.

I doubt they would tell RJ otherwise if they didn’t intend to bring it back eventually. Removing the page is probably just to stop enquiries for the time being.

I have no inside information on how Omega manages their web properties, but I wouldn't read too much into the removal of a page that didn't work anyway. As @dsio notes, it could well be just normal house cleaning. In fact, one could interpret the page's removal as preparation for an imminent re-launch.

Agreed. I doubt that an activity that allows a profit of 120 chf for a simple archive search will be abandoned.

Even if it creates bad PR costing millions? 😀

I'm not familiar with that "bad PR", is there a good place to read about it? Thanks!

The practical utility of the extracts is marginal, but there are plenty of good, or at least benign, purposes for requesting an extract. People are interested in knowing the history of their watches, and it can be useful to check if a movement is original to a reference. It explicitly illustrates the long heritage of the brand, and demonstrates that Omega cares about that heritage. It encourages collectible interest in the brand and engages owners with the company. Many other brands see the benefit in providing this service.

And on various global news sites that have reported on the issue. The 3m chf put-together speedy is probably just one of many pieces that have been sold the last years with extracts verifying its provenance. I doubt the small fee for the manual work digging up serial numbers in the archives is worth the bad press they have received and may receive in the future.
