Hello Omega experts!

I have been restoring this 166.010 seamaster, but noted something that I am not sure It was there before.

The watch just came back of service and the date is not changing exactly at midnight, but 8 minutes before. Apart from that, everything is fine.

is this expected to happen or does it mean the service has not been accurate?

thank you!

It certainly could be made to change closer to midnight. But with mechanical watches, it is difficult to set them up so that they change consistently, at precisely the stroke of 12:00. Talk to whoever repaired it.

Omega's tolerances for this type of date mechanism (semi-instantaneous) are generally +/- 10 minutes of midnight. So yours falls within that tolerance. However that tolerance is very generous to say the least, and it can be made to change much closer than that.

Cheers, Al

If everything else is good, on a watch this age, I would live with it. I believe they will reposition the hands, although I may be wrong on this. The less things come apart and go back together, the better.

Amen to that ! The watch has beautiful aging to the dial and hands and I wouldn't monkey around with those parts unless absolutely necessary. 8 minutes before? No biggie.

I also noticed that around 11:00, the date starts to change, but it “snaps” around 11:52. Is that expected? Thanks!
