Hi Bobbies @Longbow

Oooo..i love that phrase Watch Shoot-Out better than comparison .I could coin other phrases...Hmm..Swiss German Standoff ...or.. Swiss Japanese Battle Royal or American Swiss Brush Off . Ha6x!

Oh.. so we got the measured thickness all arsy varsy even with streamlined lugs huh.. so if Longbow replaces Mr Thick military pilot Sinn leather strap with a say..Nato or soft supple leather that conforms more to your wrist curvature then its a level playing field right ?
So Omega 'perfected' the Visual Appreciation of the Globemaster on the wrist .understood... although ladies.. like me.. with "more of the flesh Biblically speaking " wont have any problems whatsoever with an above average thickness of a watch

All OEM configurations: Speedy on steel, SInn on Vintage leather (the Sinn bracelet felt cheap and nasty), Globemaster ...well that leather strap chose me. There was an identical strap on the sedna gold bezel version, but it felt totally different. I actually like the Vintage Sinn strap it suits the 104 really well. I guess it will be a Polo, beach beater rather than a pseudo-sub-suit watch.
Omega 'perfected' the Visual Appreciation of the Globemaster on the wrist? No, Omega perfected the wristwatch - period. You won't have any problems with the Globemaster, unless you look like Jabba the Hutt.

i think you are right ... without trying to sound condescending - it seems that one starts out "loud" and then refines ones taste to more "classic" designs ...

so people often go from:

Large%20Image_10190.jpg
(loud,big and orange ;-)

to ...

timeless classic
A timeless old classic. Or maybe try a timeless new/old classic

Saw once again the Jaguar E-type at MOMA in NY, proudly taking center stage in one of the 60s contemporary art rooms. It really is a perfect, beautiful, classic design.

I suspect their marketing aim is to attempt to hold on to many whom enjoy their traditional pieces while growing market share by snagging newer people as well. I'm of the thinking that we'll all have our own model lines which make us smile and we can all enjoy the Omega umbrella together simultaneously.

Good post @Bushido and yes, you are right, that is exactly what Omega are trying to do. Perhaps they even plan to have a modern/contemporary line-up and a "heritage" range for us more "traditional" folk in the future.😀 However, I am not sure they are going to succeed.

Post Apple Watch, Gear 2 etc., I believe mechanical pieces will increasingly appeal only as classical design luxury items. Mechanical watches represent an oasis of sanity, the soothing chords of Debussy, the inevitable smile when you hear Grapelli...they help us get away from the digital neurosis of the modern world. They are the Millennium Falcon with all its "patina"....hence the "Chewie...we´re home" line from Han Solo in the Force Awakens.😉

rational purchase based on concerns with reliability, serviceability will always favour Rolex vs Grand Seiko?

for me its the other way around. the only point for R over S is the "brand factor"

@Longbow...I thought I should warn you that Jabba sends word that he does not appreciate being used as a constant reference for the gravitationally challenged, he also considered his wrists pretty thin compared to the rest of his body mass.

BTW he also mentioned that he loves to rock a Hublot Big Bang Unico, but his "daily beater" is a gold Yachtmaster 2.

Although I have been touting the Explorer 1 in this thread, most would know from my post history that I am not exactly a Rolex fan boy type with only one Rolex in my eight watch collection. At most, I will probably only have two Rolexes in the future. I certainly think their watches are overpriced, relying on the "brand factor" premium and many Rolexes, such as the Sub, have become so ubiquitous they are almost boring.

But I cannot agree that a Grand Seiko will be more reliable in the long run vs a sports Rolex. There is simply no technical evidence to support that argument when you compare warranty and service intervals from both manufactures.

donno - you have a problem with your R and you just drop it of at a R -AD and earmark $600 for it ...

most countries of the world don't have GS-ADs ... that is somehow of a deterrent (both new and vintage) ... especially if living on the southern hemisphere ;-)

Yes, there is more to come...

Still waiting...

I'm surprised they didn't introduce a blue variant of the PO with partial orange bezel and orange numerals. Would have been all over that color combination.

Unless they're saving that for a limited edition. With orange ceramic instead of rubber perhaps... (Ok now I'm daydreaming)

Me too. They still have the Rio SMP and 39.5mm PO's in black, blue and white. And who knows what else...

Let's hope the Wave dial from the Rio SMP makes it into the standard line...
