That is a lovely looking movement! I take the point that some make that the novelty of looking at the movement wears off, but I think I'd be fascinated by it for years to come!

I'll have a look for a 3572 - it's on the shortlist!

I notice that some exhibition backs say "First watch worn on the moon", and some say "First and only watch worn on the moon". What, really, is the difference, and why is the latter seen as incorrect?

staring at the movement has not worn off after 2+ years. It woks best when I have it on a rally strap or mesh however.

It was the first but not the only. There has been a Waltham and possibly a GMT master on the moon

I Can vouch for the fact that the 9300 is not too deep.

I may just be projecting here, but if date is not important to you, perhaps the seamaster 300 reissue might get your heart racing. Or is chrono important?

If you love the look of speedy pro, but want more modern (sapphire crystal, self winding, coaxial escapement) why not just pick up the coaxial chronograph?

If it were me I would go with the pro. I would get tired looking at all that yellow!

As far as the speedy goes. I don't think I could go with the new autos. Yes it's a superior Movement but the fact that it was a hand Wound movement that got it selected by NASA in the first place is important to hold on to its haratage.

it a landslide... Speedy pro will win, but still it is your decision. like what have you said you need to wind it every other day, easily to scratch as you need to used it everyday, both are good watch I have been in your situation one year ago choosing between date and pro by I ended up getting date as I am lazy winding up the watch every time, and has no date another disadvantage, then somebody told me "why dont check the date in your mobile" then I answered him back "if I need to check the date in my mobile why I do need to buy a watch"... speedy pro holds its value more than other speedy model so it is a though battle between the two... but one thing I can be sure after getting the speedy racing you will crave to get another one, might be the speedy pro or might be another Omega models like seamaster, aquaterra, PO etc etc etc. congrats in advance...

By virtue of being on this board you will continue to buy more watches irrespective of what you buy now.

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys! Let me try and catch up!

Chrono isn't necessarily important, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of the sm300 reissue. Not a look that grabs me personally.

That would be perfect, except for the fact its a 44.25mm case. With my skinny wrists I can only just pull off the 42mm of the Pro!

The Racing I'm looking at would be the all black dial with rhodium hands. More of a classic look. They only had the grey/yellow in store though.

I think I'd be tempted to go for the 3573.50 purely for the sapphire crystal. I appreciate the opinions regarding the lustre of the hesalite but the hard-wearing properties of the sapphire would win for me practically.

This may change your mind, or not. http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/001199.html I believe the GMT was used in space but did not land. the questions will never end🍿 regards, Bill

After posting that question I did a bit of research and realised why it might be incorrect, however I thought it was a Waltham! No matter, there was another watch and it wasn't an Omega it would seem! I'm not sure if I mind that. I am a bit of a pedant when it comes to things being correct usually, but it does make a good talking point!

Has the new reference (311.30.42.30.01.006) reverted to the old script? Seems to me it would've been the perfect opportunity for Omega..

I like the automatics better than the manaul winds so it's not exactly a unanimous vote. I'd take a 3211-31 or 3210-51 though.

My two cents...

Seek advice, get opinions, consider the practical aspects of each, weigh modern vs tradition.

But in the end, if the Speedy Racing makes your heart race, then that is the one to buy.

Good news you can't go wrong with either!

Couldn't agree more with Darlinboy. It seems to me you like the Speedy Racing more, in time you can always get a (vintage) speedy. If you hang around here long enough, it is inevitable that there will be plenty to follow. Best of luck.

No contest, Speedy Pro wins.

Even the column-wheel automatic Speedmasters don't hold their value well. I had a 7750 based Speedmaster a long time ago, and it was the only watch that I was glad to get rid of.

I think I'll try and find the Racing with the black dial and try it next to the Pro next week when I'll be closer to two different ADs. That should help my decision as far as the looks go. I've then got to decide what is more important - tradition and heritage or modern innovations. I'm swinging more towards the 3573.50 not only for the sapphire crystal but also for the display back - I think this will be an added feature of the manual movement. I think I'd take joy in winding it every day - I'm always fiddling with something so this would give me something productive to do. I do regularly use the date feature on my other watches though...

The Pro is the sort of watch in my box that, even though I don't wear it as much as others, I am still glad I own it, and would never sell it. For an Omega Loving Fanboy like myself, it is a classic icon. And even for the non Fanboys, it can hold its own with the best of them.
