I'm looking for my first high-end mechanical watch and had pretty much set my sights on a new Speedy Racing (326.30.40.50.01.001, black dial, black sub-dials, bracelet). I posted a thread on here questioning why you dont see more of them. I went to an AD and tried one on and liked it. Today, however, in another AD I decided to have a look at the Spedy Pro next to it for comparison. I'm now torn between the two!

The watch is to be a daily wearer, and a keeper, and the modern refinements of the Racing (co-axial, Si-14, auto, sapphire crystal) would seem to be more accurate and durable for a daily time piece.

However, the Pro is a classic. Could I live with hesalite (scratches would kill me, regardless of how easy it is to polish), no date and the manual movement every day? Not sure. It does look awesome though, even though I thought it might look a bit big for my wrists.

What to do!? I'm kind of siding towards the Racing as a a better everyday prospect, and maybe on a few years time getting a Pro as a 'special occasion' watch? I could then play the market a bit more and get a decent pre-owned one or something, not being bothered about it being bought for a particular reason (this is to be 30th birthday purchase!)

Thoughts and opinions welcome. Attached is a wrist shot of them side-by-side for comparison (they only had the grey face Racing in store)

Speedy Pro. It's a great every day watch with a design that will never look dated.

Pro - Hesalite crystal can be polished with poly watch a few times. very sturdy watches and hold money pretty well.

I think if you bought the Racing you would always lust after a Pro!

For everyday I would think the Pro will retain better overall timeless value. The racing although cool doesn't always go with certain attire or occasions while the simple and clean lines of the Pro will always be good for any occasion.

Thanks for the speedy (if you'll pardon the pun!) replies! Definitely food for thought!

I think I probably would always want a Pro, which is why I mentioned looking ahead and potentially getting one in the future, whereas if I started with the Pro, I don't think I'd then be too bothered about the Racing. Hmmmm...

I'd quite like to find somewhere who still has the 3570.50 as well, as I'm not too bothered about the new box etc and the price hike is quite significant!

Got to go Pro...Always loved winding my watch every morning. Now that I'm older, it's even more of a pleasure ;-)

Pretty unanimous vote in favour of the Pro then! Out of interest, does the 3573.50 with sapphire crystal/case back add much to the depth of the watch? I saw the 9300 movement version and it seemed massive!

I have a good mind to change the thread title to "OK, I had a dilemma now i don't"

Instead of the 3573 I'd go for the 3572. Still has the clear case back but has the hes up front.

Haha! You guys are pretty persuasive! I still like the idea of the modern innovations to the movement, but I guess the Pro has been going long enough without any problems!

    My two cents...

Seek advice, get opinions, consider the practical aspects of each, weigh modern vs tradition.

But in the end, if the Speedy Racing makes your heart race, then that is the one to buy.

Good news you can't go wrong with either!

Wise words. As far as dilemmas go, it's a nice situation to be in!

Buy the pro. If you really want a coax, sapphire automatic, get an aqua terra - similar case, but then each watch is the best of breed. I shied away from the pro for a long time, adamant I only wanted automatics. I have one now and love it, and have two more on my hit list.

    Go with the 3572.50

The plexi polishes out quite nice. When I bought my almost mint Genimi IV the seller noted "scratch on crystal 4 o'clock." Took 30 seconds to make it go away....
