That was a hell of a long courtship before you managed to get them properly coupled up! More Tr猫s-Complex than Tri-Compax 馃榿

it was quite the education. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. You鈥檇 think a spring bar... was just a spring bar. But ooohhh no...

It appears, to my untrained eye, that you forgot the leather part......

After all that work, I think maybe a transparent plastic strap would be in order, so the spring-bars are visible.

I'm having this same trouble as well, although slightly different issue. I am finding large diameter ends, but in some cases even if the uncompressed width is correct, the compressed width does not go down small enough to get past the male pin. So there is some variation in the amount of compression possible from one spring bar brand/type to the next.

I am targeting a 20mm lug width, and figured for sure either the 11/16 or the 3/4 would work, but the 11/16 is just a bit too small to safely engage with both male pins, and the 3/4 is the proper uncompressed width, but it won't compress down enough to clear the pins.

It's getting harder to find these vintage ones, if anyone ever finds a modern supplier that works, please post it here......

these sizes I have I think would be good for more like 18/19mm lugs, and for more like 21/22mm lugs......

Finding this thread I feel so much less alone. I was lucky enough to score this fantastic 18k 1940s UG Monodatic from a member here and have been timidly trying to solve the female spring bar paradox.

I found some bars on Ofrei that will fit the lugs (good) and I have a very decent 17mm strap that will also fit the lugs (good), but I can't see a way of fitting both onto the watch at the same time without damaging the little 18k posts (bad). Does one need to use a smaller strap than the lugs will take, to get enough clearance?

I'm also wondering if I should just put the bars on and order a glue-down strap for fixed bars, and just pretend it's a fixie. Seems the safest solution for the watch. Anyone try this?

That strap you want is likely 11/16" originally. Lots of those on eBay if you can get one the right length. Not that you can't use 17mm, I've done it myself, but just another alternative.

As for fitting the bars, if it were mine, I'd be asking my watchmaker for advice on doing it.

Someone showed me there's a bit of a trick to putting them on
-use a case knife instead of a spring bar tool, insert one side of the strap/bar cup then for the other side push the strap edge down with the case knife horizontally to get the lugs' pin inside the strap bar space. Now with the pin inside the strap space use a tweezer to push the female cup down inside the strap bar space and under the pin to secure the bar.

Sounds like a good plan. What I have found is the softer the leather the better. No matter what you do, you are going to compress the strap tube a bit and then massage it back into shape.

In the end it went better than expected but still. And the idea that the watch hangs on 4x 1mm max....

Update: mission accomplished. I ordered old style spring bars from eBay for a painful price, but they are actually very easy to mount. This Delugs strap is nice and soft so wasn't hard to shape into the lug space. Nice and Christmassy!

Thanks everyone for the advice!
