·I’ve had people say this to me before. Funny thing is, a few minutes later they’ll often ask me what the time is because they are too lazy to pull their phone out their pocket!

I see a lot of watches on wrists. In my office, the section I work in, I am the only one with a watch fetish. Most of them know I am into watches by now and a few sometimes ask, if I have bought anything new, or what I am wearing that day. One of the women has a husband, who is also a watch “collector”, so she asks questions sometimes about a watch her husband is currently eyeing.
Where I see most mechanical watches is probably, when I am on the playgroud with my kids. There is a rather large playground, where we often go, and I have seen a lot of watches there. The last time I went there two guys in front of me were in conversation and one was wearing a flat link Speedy (couldn’t see which one) and the other a really banged up Milgauss.
There is also a fair amount of both Rolex and Omega at the school, where my oldest kid goes. I have seen several Submariners, GMT’s and Speedmasters there. And yesterday I saw that one of my local wine dealers was wearing a Patek Nautilus.
I would love to bump into someone wearing Grand Seiko.
On the odd day i go to work or whatever, and forget to put on a watch, I feel naked the whole day long, horrible feeling....
Same here - and a couple of times I turned around and went home to remedy the situation! Luckily I like close.
I’ve even considered keeping one of my beaters in a drawer so I can put it on in such a situation.
Clearly we don't live in the same neighborhood.... I get to talk watches with someone I run into only once or twice a year. Thus why I hang out here.
No one here is disinterested - so why scorn the ignorant? You can ignore them indeed, or educate them.
By the way @noelekal here’s my daily beater for the rainy bike ride. A recent acquisition, I love the fact it’s not a fancy watch and subverts the fancy mother of pearl dial with a whimsical cartoon character. And I love the fact it’s a solid stainless steel case with nicely brushed midcase on the edge, and a Seiko quartz movement— not one of those cheapie crappy costume watches bound to fall apart quickly.
