No Love for the Modern Constellation

Hello All,
First post on the forums here!

I've been eyeing up this bad boy for quite some time now and have contacted a few sellers to feel out what the price would be. Fortunately, they mustn't be selling too too well because average prices are less than half of retail. Out of curiosity, why do you think this is?
I get that some people aren't a big fan of the look - but it's an extremely solid chronometer for relatively cheap.

Agree with the thread’s title, too much bling going on there for my taste.

The question is do you like the watch because it's more affordable, or do you actually like the watch? If it's the latter, go for it. While this model and the men's Constellation do not seem to be as popular in the U.S. and Europe, they are great watches. It also seems under-advertised in those markets, aside from the women's models.

I have one in SS, and I love it. No problems, and it's an excellent timekeeper. Also, it's relatively thin for the larger Omega co-axial movements.

A beautiful piece! Very nice!

I love it for the watch, it's a watch I've wanted ever since I was a young lad. Just need to find the right price point. Being able to purchase and being able to afford are definitely different concepts 😀

Always liked them. I bought a steel model earlier this year at a significant discount and couldn't be happier. It's a quality watch with a unique style.

I could never get into the style of these modern Constellations. Always looked like the Goatse Constellation to me, and once you see it, there's no going back.

Now if someone can sell me a 2852... I'm all ears

I have not been a fan of these, but they seem to be somewhat popular as a wedding gift for the groom in South Korea.

Constellation is a huge seller in Asia, they offer superb quality when compared to other Genta watches, if you like it, go for it

I just can’t stand the way they look. To each his own. Now this..... this is my idea of a proper Constellation

I believe they're called "Mahattan style" (?). To each his own, I am not a fan, preferring the more classic 1950's and 1960's Connies.

I've considered a SS one for a while now as a companion 'beater' wearer to my more basic Seikos, but never seem to find a good used one at a reasonable price. Even new though they seem a solid deal if you A. like Omega B. like the design, which is sort of 'love or hate', and C. like the statement it makes, whatever you feel that may be.

I am not really fond of it. I love the earlier 60s and 70s connies. Especially the c-case...

Bingo! yes they originate from a long line of constellation "manhattans" and don't get me wrong I love our pie-pans and C-cased but also have a couple of these manhattans as well. we have one of the original flat bezel/crystal/bracelet styles as well as a newer curved model and they are quite nice to look at once you wear it for a bit. sort of a "snazzy" New York look to them. 😀

Not a fan of the modern iterations, especially that unsightly Breitling-esque bezel. Much prefer the classic models or today's Globemasters -- but have never handled one in the metal, so mine is not a particularly informed response.

I have a Constellation 95 (purchased 20 years ago). Not a fan of the latest models. BUT if you like it, it's all that matters.

I think the issue is it is a design that feels for better or for worse too 80s, much like two tone watches of the day.

Personally, the modern Constellations and Rolex Day-Date look too much like an old man's watch, and I've never been a fan of Roman numerals on wristwatches. Now, I can easily see why the older Constellations with their dodecagonal dials get more attention.

I’m a big fan of the modern Constellation Globemaster with its simple retro design and Omega’s iconic pie pan dial, but I find the Constellation Manhattan just too “60’s modern” and blingy for my taste. That being said, the Manhattan version is a quality timepiece. If it speaks to you, that’s all that matters.

I think it's the wretched excess of over-styling.

Watches or cars; too much of a good thing is too much. Mind you, I wouldn't mind wearing the watch ... or driving the car.

By comparison, everything one needs and nothing he doesn't need.
