Agree with the others above. A yellow gold 35mm Uni Compax with a clean dial should be possible for round $3,000 I think. You need to be patient. Very, very patient. This last bit is very important!

Cracking watches turn up here all the time so keep your eyes peeled on the sales section. @Florent sold the precise watch I think you are looking for bang on your budget last spring;

Good luck!

And as far as Angelus I own some pieces, and I never saw my watchmaker as excited over a top quality movement (chornodato, 215) . He commented on how well made, well engineered, and "sturdy" the movement was.

That’s good to know; I’m sure if the right piece came along I would “stretch” the budget. I really like the look of the angelus chronos, and their in house movements, but I’ve made the mistake of settling on other pieces as an alternative to the one I originally became interested in; aka I was not patient. I think this time around I’m going to hunt down the UG no matter how long it takes. All the input from you guys is really helpful, thanks.

Ok guys I think I found the same watch that sold on OF in the spring, originally sold at song watches, now on eBay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-...881936?hash=item215f8b3f10:g:-EcAAOSwwgddN3Lc

Can anyone confirm this? Dial looks a match; I have not seen a brushed dial like this for this model, any experts care to comment on originality? Patina on hands looks original. Full link to listing is above. Asking price is 4500 which is obviously higher than it sold here, but I am thinking of making an offer. Any ideas on what would be reasonable?

I generally don’t respond publicly to price requests. You have plenty of basis here to make an offer.

The watch that sold here in spring is on my wrist, not on Ebay. 😉

And that is a different dial version.

So happy I found this community; I’ve spent many hours reading through different posts and stickies, and I have to say this has to be the single most complete congregation of knowledgeable and thoughtful people in the watch world. Amazing amount of good information, and such willingness to help someone like me. I appreciate all the direction I was given esp on precious posts on UG; it gave me the confidence to make the purchase.

Just some musings about my experience with this purchase. It was definitely the most confident watch purchase I have made, and I think that confidence came from multiple factors. I felt like I identified a reference(s) that first and foremost I felt was interesting and beautiful in design, which was also in my price point (no point in going after vintage Patek where I could only afford the absolute lowest of quality); I felt coming to this forum I had access to the necessary information in regards to images, and technical info which made me more confident to evaluate the quality of said reference. I had access to individuals who had more experience and knowledge than I did, who had obviously been on a journey of tracking down pieces themselves and have seen the traps one can fall into. I was able to bounce questions off of them which was very helpful, but I liked that no one "spoon fed" me opinions or advice. I think ultimately I think the biggest revelation I came to while seeing other peoples collections on this forum, is that the more experienced individuals found THE BEST example of the reference they possible could in THE BEST condition; there was minimal settling for a "nice case, but medium quality dial" or vice versa. That really spoke to me, and in collecting I think finding the best example possible, even if it takes some time and effort (and some headaches), will ultimately be worth it; I know that if I settled on a moderate quality piece I would have regrets, and therefore I should have just saved my money and not bothered. Cheers everyone
