And you probably think their stuff in their little world are pointless as well.... like social media or apple watch or something
But it can change as they grow...
Actually no I don't, just making the point that if I presented my eldest son with a 21 year old watch next year, it would either continue to be unused, or perhaps sold so he could buy something he valued!

These posts make me laugh, just admit you wanted to mark the biggest day in your life with something really nice to wear on your wrist.

My grandfather gave me a watch. I treasure it because it was his. I think back to everything he did while wearing it, how he'd carry me on his shoulders while wearing it. Great memories of a GREAT man.

- close, but not quite - but I _really_ do want to try and get him interested in watches and am hopeful we can wear the same one at some point.

Not counting the 50th and Ultraman my next speedy would be a 105.012.

I am wondering how the case back seal will hold up after 21 years.

Every time I see a post of a vintage NOS Speedy post I am in awe.

Folks,
I've recently invested in a new moonwatch for my newborn son.
However I'm torn between wearing it, and storing it for his 21st.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether there's potential for long term damage if I just leave the watch in its box, as I much prefer the latter option
Thx
C.

First: beautiful idea.
Second: I'd wear it. If he wants a brand new omega watch with 21 he can still buy one... But if it was your watch it's special. Easy as that.
Third: Storing watches in safes for years is ridiculous (if your not a investor, etc.).

To your questions: nowadays they use different "oils" - so not running shouldn't harm the watch.

If you bought it specifically for him, save it for him! Let him see you wear your own Speedies. But why wait until he's 21? Maybe give it to him when he's 16 or 18.

I am no watch expert, but the only damage I can think of is oil drying out. So you might want to get it serviced before you present it to him, because the oil will be 21 years old (or 16 or 18 years old) and dried up (probably).

Why should a 16 or 18 year old need a speedy? Give a 16 year old a Longines Hydroconquest. But no speedy. And definitely no daniel wellington "watch"... 😀

What is wrong with giving a 16-18 year old a Speedmaster? They are a heck of a lot cheaper then the car the kid will likely be driving, and less likely to get wrecked.

Do you think a 16 year old would appreciate a Speedy? Sure he/she would appreciate a car... 😀
Or a new iphone...

Every child is different, some may or some may not. You just never know. Myself at 16 would have been ecstatic over receiving such a watch, however I wouldnt be bale to grasp the gesture and completely understand it until I was a bit older and more mature.

My 5 year old son really likes watches at this point in his life. He still doesn't know how to tell time, but he likes watches 😀

He has already laid claim to my Sinn UX, '67 Speedy and #PCA Speedy. I have been clear that one day I will pass them on to him. He doesn't know about the circa 2014 Speedy I have tucked away, or any of the others that may one day help fund his college education.

That's awesome, I hope my son will take to watches like I did and my father has. I hope to hand down my speedy to him one day.

Few years ago in New Orleans I was walking down by the water front wearing my Speedmaster, and a kid who was 15 or 16 walked by me. After he was a few feet past he turned and yelled "Nice Speedy!" to me, and when I turned he held up his wrist, so I held up mine and gave him a thumbs up in return.

Not sure why you think someone that young can't appreciate a Speedmaster...

Not running would not harm the watch regardless of new or old oils actually...

I know I’m not 16 anymore, but I bought my speedy at 19. Only reason I didn’t have one earlier is because I couldn’t afford this hobby. Still can’t if I’m honest😁

You should wear it with care and offer it to your son for his 21. It would be much more emotionally charged and will have a real soul.

Did the same. Bought a new speedmaster professional in 2015, when my son was born. I am wearing it, maybe daily. It’s still in great condition. I think he willhave „hopefully“ great memories about it. If the kids still wearing watches in the future
