Buy 2, one for him (NOS) at a milestone and leave one from yourself 'with his name on it'.

Wear it - my son, who will receive my Sub when he's older, loves it when I let him click the clasp in place. It's an action I let him do a couple of times a week, so he's building up the "hey, this is my dad's watch" set of memories. I think it'll be all that much more impactful when I give it to him (as he knows it's my favorite watch) and he clicks it into place for the first time.

Let us know what you choose!

Folks,
I've recently invested in a new moonwatch for my newborn son.
However I'm torn between wearing it, and storing it for his 21st.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether there's potential for long term damage if I just leave the watch in its box, as I much prefer the latter option
Thx
C.
I did the same, I replaced the bracelet with a leather strap so that when I give it to him the bracelet is not damaged. I am wearing it because I want to give him the watch when he is older in good condition but with some history.

we'll find out in 20 years 馃槈
Decision made - I'm storing it. I'll wear my speedies with him and his sisters and build the memories that way.

So you are going to give him a worn watch with a new bracelet.. ( wear them both or at least the bracelet a bit also )

I would prefer both aged the same or a new watch with a old bracelet. 馃槈

If you're going to pass it on to him, do it with all of the wear and memories you and he will accumulate together over the years.

He may look at a particular scratch or ding after you've shuffled off and think, with a wistful smile, "Ah yeah, remember that Dad?".

I know which one I'd prefer.
I like this idea. And 20 years from now they will still be produced. You could always buy a newer one.

Don't believe in storing watches myself. Wear it, put some memories on it, and pass it on to your son later. He will appreciate and cherish it more. That's what I am doing with my Rolex Sub, which I bought new a month before he was born, and wore it at bed-side when he was born earlier this year. Cheers!

I totally in the keep-it-in-the-box-and-give-it-to-him-NOS camp.

Honestly, he'll have plenty of stuff of yours at some point. You have watches, jewelry etc that he'll inherit or you'll give to him. He's going to grow up knowing you love watches and see you wearing your watches.

When he is 21, after envying your watches for years, he'll have his very own brand new speedy. That you bought for him when he was born.

Great! No matter what I am sure he'll be excited!
