I love mine and have never had any issues (have given it a few good whacks over the years)… I think if you had done anything to cause this you would remember the incident. Looks like a manufacturing defect to me and I would 100% try to get it replaced.
Just cross check all serial numbers / paperwork etc match up if they swop the case....

Thanks, will do! Have only worn it for a couple of hours and since then it’s been sitting in my safe as i’m waiting for the other strap and the reply of Omega. Hopefully they get back to me on Monday

Exchange it for sure if you ever wanted to sell it in the future it would knock a few thousand off the value.

I would personally reject any defect or damage to a case that was visible to the naked eye, regardless of its material on a brand new luxury watch unless it was reflected in its (much reduced) price. For cheaper watches I would be more tolerant of it, more so because I would likely bash the hell out of them anyway at some point.

The last couple of watches I bought from Watches of Switzerland, a large dealer all over the Caribbean, you had to sign a document confirming 1. Receipt of watch 2. Wound and set to correct time, 3. Shown the key features and how they operate, 4. Receipt of all boxes and papers, and 5. Acceptability of visual condition. This protects seller and buyer and should be standard procedure. A watch bought in person should be thoroughly inspected before leaving the store, but we are usually pumped up with excitement and don't do everything we should.

Similar issue here.

Cost me about 1250 Euro for a partial case replacement. I think they called it an outer case replacement. They engraved the original serial numbers on the new case.

I clearly did the damage with the spring bar, but I would just never have believed that the force of the spring in the spring bar could damage a ceramic case. I think it's as Al said - even a small force at the wrong angle concentrated on a small area can do serious damage. I am being super careful these days and try to avoid strap changes when I can.

This is my first and last ceramic watch. I love the watch, but I will stick with metals from now on 😀

Wow, that sucks. The OB fitted my last strap (bought a shorter OEM one) on my BSotM. The first chap was young and inexperienced, butchered the original 3 month old strap when he removed it from the deployant (have to squeeze to avoid damaging to the sides of the stap). He was very apologetic and manager was called over and gave me a new one. Seeing your picture and what happened at the OB I just removed my straps to see if they damaged anything but fortunately it's clean but something to be wary about. Now I just have to make sure I don't break it putting them back in!

For all the things we hear about how durable these are I'm surprised to see this. Taking ceramics right back off the list, I do far too many strap changes to risk this kind of damage.

Wow really surprised to see this damage, I thought ceramic was supposed to be super tough?

Ceramic is durable but brittle.

Yup! It doesn't require a lot of force either. A minimal amount of force in just the right way will reveal how brittle it is.

Edited to add
Durable: scratches
Brittle: impact- of any kind. (IE a springbar under compression being released into the inner lug equals impact)

We all know Ceramics are brittle … but also super hard and scratch resistant - which Is why (along with the stunning aesthetic) I was drawn the original DSOTM. I have owned one for 5 years and it is my go to watch for most active situations (from clubbing in Amsterdam and Berlin, to long haul flights, to ferry crossings, road trips and commuting by car and train). I am careful but it has had at least one hard whack on a Belin lamppost and survived. I swapped over from buckle to deployant without any trouble. It also visited its virtual home and saw the evolution of Ceramics and some Zirconium compound at the Omega museum. There are 70K members on the forum and Omega have sold thousands of these (and various variants)…. the forum and interweb are not awash with issues. For sure if you drop or hit it in the wrong way it may damage - but I think you would have been very unlucky. Also there maybe some with production faults as with all watches (I owned two briefly without issue) but these should be dealt with under warranty. Long story short... does it scratch (No) does it look and wear fantastic (IMHO yes) .. will it crack if you drop it on a hard surface from height … maybe but the compound has been developed for years for use as a watch case by Omega... so it is fairly resilient / not a bloody Faberge egg in my experience :0)
My car windows also shatter if I hit them just the right way with the escape hammer.... but day to day they seem to do fine and they are a lot more brittle than my watch case I suspect.

can’t wait to have mine back on my wrist. Hopefully Omega gives me an update in the coming week!

Ridiculous, they should have just covered it. Should not break due to spring bars.

Fully agree. It was two months or back and forth. I was not impressed.

Still no news from Omega. I’ve only worn the watch for a couple of hours. It has been longer with Omega than on my wrist, which is pretty frustrating as well Hopefully I don’t have to wait 4 months...
