Since when was Bond in the SAS

Agreed. Not too many RN types in the SAS. For that matter, I don’t recall JB being a bootneck or SBS either.

Casino Royale. Vesper guesses his background, including being a former SAS-type. It's not actually confirmed, but it's strongly implied that's she's right about everything she says about Bond.

There's also nothing to suggest the updated Bond was in the Royal Navy.

Until now I didn’t realize Ava Green had a speaking role in the film, such was my utter entrancement.

Except his naval officer rank of Commander...

Now then, let us not descend into an ever tightening Nerd spiral dive. Can we focus on Ava Green or watches?

Because talking Ava Green or watches wouldn't make us nerds?

Director Bernardo Bertolucci described Ava Green as “so beautiful, it’s indecent”.

Oh, and to keep on topic, here’s a dude wearing a watch (he looks like a sailor to me...).

EG is (was?) a spokesperson for Montblanc, but she hates watches.

"Apart from teddy bears, what else do you collect? Watches, maybe?
Definitely not! I hate watches. I never wear one. If I did, I’d never take my eyes off it. There’s something addictive about seeing the seconds hand going round and round the dial. Whenever you’re under pressure, the first thing you do is check the time. As though knowing what time it is can make a difference. Although it does happen. The course of an entire life can change in a single second!"

What's really indecent is that she's that beautiful and that talented.

Why Ava? Isn’t she Eva?

You’re quite right, Sir. My apologies to Eva. Will she ever forgive me?

She is by a country mile my fav Bond girl... and whip-smart off camera to boot.

Bond was not in the Navy. His Naval rank was his OC official cover for diplomatic purposes (also mentioned in Goldeneye)
He is an SIS officer formerly MI6

Okay, nerd-off. According to the original Fleming books, in 1941 Bond joins a branch of what was to become the Ministry of Defence and becomes a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, ending the war as a commander. Bond applies to M for a position within the "Secret Service", part of the Civil Service, and rises to the rank of principal officer.

Because her name is Eva, I think she needs a Speedmaster...
