Need to know about my Railmaster

Hello everyone,
I recently came across one Omega railmaster cal 284 tropical dial case serial number 2914 -1 SC. 38mm face without crown. As far as I know this is the first series of railmaster, so it doesnt have horse logo on the back. By the way what ever I mentioned above, I found on internet only so my info may not be accurate one. I wanted to know following things
1. I want to know how rare is the tropical dial specially on first series
2. How much it should cost. Seller asking around 1.5K USD. Does it worthy that much or not.
3. As I can see the dial is almost gone so if I bought it, should I repaint it?
Thanks in advance to all omega lovers

Can see if the museum will buy it for 2 million ::stirthepot::

1.5k is a steal, the case alone can probably fetch that much. You can also probably get a service dial if you would rather have something more legible for daily wear.

There’s tropical and there’s tropical. Personally I’d value this significantly less than a black dial due to the poor condition. The case is also extremely polished.

However, although it’s not too condition it’s quite attractive and at the asking price is a no brainer.

I'd consider that Rail a bargain even with an extra zero tacked onto the asking price assuming it's confirmed by an extract.

Thanks @all of you for the valuable info. I am not frequent user of this forum. However some time when I cant decide what to do I post here. In this recent instance for example, I never seen a railmaster in person, so needed your expert advises.

If that watch is really being offered at the price you mentioned, you should go right away, avoid any talking, pay cash and run away as fast as you can.

If the watch doesn’t have an extract, you’re not getting one for a good long time.

I don’t think there is enough information here to make an assessment of this watch.

The picture of the caseback is very out of focus. I think it’s been polished so heavily that there are only traces left of the hippocampus.

Do you have pictures of the inside to ensure that the caseback has the correct markings, the movement caliber is correct, the case is intact and the dust cover is still present?

A Railmaster in slightly better condition was sold here not too long ago:

If all the pieces are there, it could be an incredible bargain. If not? 🙁

This is a classic collector’s conundrum.

Are you able to open the case back to confirm the ref no and whether the anti mag cage/spacer is present?

Bear in mind it’s a radium dial.

@gatorcpa @Dr No @Caliber561 Guys I got the watch and less than 1K as I was expecting 😀. Adding some more images which I taken few mins ago after got the watch in hand. I found few imperfections too. You guys can tell me how big those issues are. between lugs I found one dent and screw section of the back.

I added images. I believe parts are available but some small dents are there on case. Please check and give your opinion

Barn find!

This looks like a Railmaster from 1957. Here is an ad from a very respected high-end watch dealer with a similar watch.

http://www.db1983.com/our-archive/omega-railmaster-ck-2914-1-1957

Serial numbers are about 400 apart. Case back is supposed to be blank. Only question mark here looks to be the movement spacer which I will leave to people far more expert than I.

I think you got the deal of the year so far.

Here is an original advertisement brochure from around 1959 that features the Railmaster.
