·Dear community,
As open answer to the last private message I rereived.
I was really happy when some peope discovered my photography on Facebook and saw my Speedmaster Pro was a blue dial... Few, very few people are giving lots of help...
So first of all, thank you to these people!
Secondly, some people like the ones having written "Speedmaster only" are talking about my watch as prototype and thus kinda unique.
And finally, for me this watch is priceless, AND NOT FOR SALE. Why? Because I have received it from my father when I went 18y old, telling me the "family history". Some years later, few days after having me finishing my studies at university, he has had one or several strokes, leaving him today, 15 years later, with a severe handicap. For me, it's very difficult to see my father like this, with over 80% of handicap (handicap including clear communication with the person I liked most to share thoughts with).
This watch is priceless because it's a link between my father and me. And my quest is not to have it sold, but to better understand my family's history and ask questions to my father while he's still alive (yes, alive, because his health is going downwards and I don't know anymore what to say to have him fighting 🙁 ). I see it as a link between him and me, and I am looking for any information that can make this link even stronger, while my father's health is getting worser and worser...
For the facts, a member of this forum has expertised my watch and gave it a 50k€ estimate. But for me it's priceless, how could you ever give a price on something linking you to your most close and loving family?
What I am looking for, is history. I need my watch's history soon and getting the Omega archives look very slow.
So, if you really would like to help me, please check following questions and do not, never ever ask me about selling my watch:
- how can I get my Omega Archive? I am waiting for over 2 months, but cannot contact them directly to get some basical information. Is their a phone number to call them directly?
- how can I understand the basics of a watch, and step by step come up with (engineering) understanding of what a 145012-67 is? Best read was the Speedmaster Only book, but I think I need to make still more basic steps to understand a watch and what makes the difference with Omega's pre-moonwatch (since the NASA required for the first time a request of information/request of ... in order to choose the watch that would make it to the Moon).
- Is there any type of gass between the dial and the glass? Because if it's just air, metal will just have a reaction with it and getting oxided. Where these prototypes just made to check if it was likely to have one of them in production or ...?
- what are the theories surrounding the metal dial speedy watches? There's nothing clear about it, while people having worked at that time for Omega (+/- 1968 -1969) might still be alive. Is there any way to contact them?
Please apologize my silence since the "a blue dial popped up out of Facebook" post, but it's my oldie, and my oldie is not for sale. I'll post hopefully soon more news about the Omega Archive request, and pictures of my watch.
Take care and many thanks in advance for your feedback!
