Mystery Shipment from the Swatch Group?

I've registered my name and address with UPS, and they automatically notify me whenever a new shipment is scheduled for delivery. Today I received such a notification and, looking at the details, the shipment is from the Swatch Group, in particular Swatch Group US in Miami. (I'm in Atlanta.) The service is UPS Ground, and the weight is listed as 1.0 lbs. What's mysterious is that I'm not expecting anything from them. So it's time for the speculation to begin.

To my knowledge, here are all of the interactions I've had with the Swatch Group in my entire life.

- In 2022 on two separate occasions I requested Extracts from the Archives in person at the local Omega Boutique. I have received both extracts, picking both up at the OB.
- In February I purchased a new Rado watch online through Jared. It was drop shipped to me from the Swatch Group in New Jersey. I've had no reason to contact Swatch with respect to this watch.
- On May 5 I requested historical information on a Longines watch I own using the online form from the Longines web site. They emailed a response to me on June 16,
- On May 13 I requested a quotation for service this same Longines watch. Their only response was a email that basically said to mail it to them in Miami. I didn't feel comfortable mailing an expensive watch to anyone unsolicited, without a case number, etc., so I ignored the response. (I am planning to drop it off at an AD, but haven't gotten around to it yet.)
- On May 20 I ordered a Longines replacement clasp. That was shipped to me within a couple of days.
- On June 30 I requested historical information on a Longines watch I was considering purchasing. They emailed a response to me on July 13.

So what is UPS delivering to me tomorrow?

(My nightmare would be that Swatch has shipped someone else's watch to me by mistake, but since UPS lists the weight at 1.0 lbs, that doesn't seem likely.)

Update:

After a 2-day detour/delay into Alabama, my 2022-2023 Longines catalog arrived today. I'm not sure what prompted them to send it, nor do I understand why they used UPS instead of regular mail, but whatever.

I get these alerts from phishers. So perhaps it is a vacuum for your personal info and bank account.

If it was to me, on past experience……..a card saying ‘sorry we missed you’?

I get them all the time and they look really convincing. I always open the tracking page for DHL/UPS etc on my laptop and manually input the tracking reference which is always unknown.

If a scam, the high level of sophistication of many of these phishing schemes is disturbing. You really have to be on your guard.

How about the Lettres de Brassus BLANCPAIN magazine? I was surprised to find it in my mailbox packed as a small parcel earlier this week.

This one’s legit. The notification is from the official UPS app, it’s not an email or text message.

I've received two notifications from my UPS app before for ghost/unexpected packages. Both times they traveled through the system and then before delivery, I'd get a phone call from "UPS" that some additional funds or some other information is required for delivery. Of course, they threaten returning the package if I don't submit.

Wow. That's kind of impressive (in a malevolent way). It suggests UPS has some real security issues as some bad actor was able to gain access to their notification system.

Well, no. It means someone took the time to "send" a package to me to try and scrape information from me on the flip side. The app just lets you know when a package is being sent to your registered address.

Like I said, these mysterious packages moved through the UPS system and then were mysteriously stopped before being sent out for actual delivery. It gives the scammers an actual, real tracking number to entice the victim. What happens to it when the victim does my submit, I don't know.

I just had the same thing happen to me, the timing was impeccable. I had an actual item I had ordered due for delivery I almost fell for it but searched my one brain cell and remembered such a thing had never happened prior and it was just scammers who happened to phish me when I had something on the way. These people must have some skills they could put to good use.

Oh yeah, they're wicked smart and clever. Have to stay on your toes. That's why I use the app. It helps filter the endless stream of emails and phone calls about a package that needs more "information" in order to be delivered. That's why those two standout to me is because the app seemingly would've corroborated their story but even then, the scenarios and specifics just didn't feel right.

Just wait and see if something shows up, perhaps they are sending you a coffee mug or Yeti type mug, who knows. Go to the UPS site and enter the tracking number from your email and see if it actually exists in the UPS system.
