My dad gave me my first Rolex GMT in 1967. So for over half a century one Rolex or another has been on my wrist. However the past several years I've become just fed up with all the games Rolex plays. These are just down right marketing games that's all they are. You have to admit, Rolex is king at marketing. Saturday on 1/9/21 my new planet ocean 39.5 rubber strap divers watch arrived at my door. I had been kicking the idea around for some time now. Nothing is spot on perfect with any watch. I don't even see the escapement crown. What I did was go down to my local omega AD. Tried on some divers watch's and settled on the 39.5 600 m 2000 ft. I did buy from one of the very big name sellers on line. Since I'm only 5'5" it fits fine. Start moving into a 43mm and the watch becomes to thick. My Rolex day date is a 36mm also fits fine. But all in all I'm happy. Very pleased.
While you wait for the PO, here is a photo of the watch I am wearing today. I bought it in 2008 and at the time, I was considering a PO, speedmaster professional moonphase and the 2254.50, that I ultimately purchased. I am still happy with it. It just came back from its second service.
All this talk about the Planet Ocean and no pictures. Here's mine. And a 2254 just because. have fun kfw
Good choice. I’d be interested to hear how the rubber strap feels - I bought my 39.5mm PO last month on the steel bracelet.
Congrats on your new Planet Ocean! I just picked up mine up just last year. I was deciding between this versus a Sea Dweller, and well, just like you, got tired of playing Rolex's hype game & empty display cases. Haven't been able to take mine on any seaside adventures, other than some weekend drives up & down segments of California's coastal Highway 1. But during lockdown, I've found the PO to be a fitting wrist companion while watching nature documentaries, and um, other types of videos with whales
Planet Oceans are amazing! I rotate between rubber, bracelet and sometimes leather. It’s a sizable piece but with a proper fit it won’t bother you!
Rubber strap did not work out for me as it has a steep angle with the watch and so it was forcing the watch to sit angled on my wrist. I guess it could have worked with the 43.5mm but the 39.5mm fits within my wrist and so the strap was not a great fit. I sold the strap and kept the steel bracelet.
Ha! The rubber strap didn’t fit well for me either. Not so much due to its angle but I didn’t have a good fit with where the holes are placed. Had to drill an extra hole just to make it comfortable enough.
Don't let it discourage you. I'd suggest trying it on for a bit longer than I did (which was about 2 minutes) and seeing how you get on with it. To be fair, I'm a difficult person when it comes to fit. I thought the bracelet for the PO was also quite badly designed, with its non-adjustable clasp. I ended up adding the adjustable clasp, but for the combined total of bracelet and clasp I could have bought a couple of other nice things. Crazy hobby!
Hi there, I have a Seamaster PO 43.5 and I'm looking for a rubber strap, I've seen the below and am wondering if this GMT version will fit mine, can anyone advise if so? https://www.swisswatchspares.com/pr...-planet-ocean-21mm-98000434-blue-rubber-strap
When possible, visit an Authorized Dealer or Omega Boutique that has a 43.5 on rubber strap, and try it out for comfort, in-person first? I got the leather outer + rubber inner OEM strap when purchasing my 43.5 Planet Ocean, and have worn that for all of 5 minutes. I didn't like how the little rubber waves felt against the skin... although the watch does look really cool on a blue strap! Ultimately, I found the bracelet to be much more comfortable. My OEM rubber strap for the PO now just sits in my closet. I doubt I'll ever wear it again. It's so uniquely molded to fit a big & thick dive watch with a 21mm lug span. So not very flexible for pairing with other watches you may have in your collection. Definitely recommend trying one on in person, wearing it in the store for few minutes while trying out a range of arm motions, and see how comfortable you find it before buying a rubber strap for your PO.
