To the OP - lovely watch you have there! You now have the pleasure of having an Omega that is military and has a black dial. Certainly desirable features.
Thanks for the opinion, black dial and military were my main reasons for jumping in to the vintage market, I’ve also love omegas for years. Also thanks for the prices and the history of prices.

I didn’t buy the watch for profit but because I loved the history and look of it. It’s an added bonus if It doesn’t depreciat.

I don’t think that you’ve over paid. Like lots of other vintage watches prices have gone up recently and I think that you would struggle to get one in comparable condition for much less.

I think that's heading towards "a lot" over.

It seems like a fairly good example, but it's not spectacular and you could probably get similar for a fair bit less. There's been some paint touched up on the dial too I think, certainly the 12 seems to have patches of newer paint on it.

If you do decide to find another then look over on MWR. You'll need to register to see the sales forum. Some very nice ones have sold there in the 1200-1400 range in the last six months.

Hi guys, what site is "MWR" ? I'd love to look over the Dirty Dozen watches for sale there,
Thanks,
Dave

Were these all not redials and repainted? I think it looks fine.
No, Larry - I think you're confusing the 1953 6b (2777-1), most of which were recalled and repainted to replace the radium for tritium. The "unmolested" ones are "thin arrows" and fetch £5000+ now.

Hi all

Let me introduce myself, I’m Dave, I’m from the UK and I’ve wanted a nice vintage omega for about 6 months now. I saved and did my research and decided on the omega Dirty Dozen from 1944. I Iiked the idea that it could have been worn during WW2. Any way I’ve jumped in and the below is my new (old) beauty.

I think I’ve probably paid a little over the odds but I don’t mind that as I’m not looking to make money out of the purchase I’m looking for enjoyment.

From my research, looking on this forum, along with other website I’m pretty sure that the watch is real, and that the dial, hands, font on the back and movement are all correct. However as I’m new and the watch can still be returned for a refund I thought I’d ask you all for your opinions.

On a side note I’m now saving for my next watch, the 1953 fat arrow!

In advance of all you reply’s, thanks for taking the time to give your opinions and advice.

Overall, you've nothing to be ashamed about if that's your first purchase. The dial has probably been touched up; the hands have been refilled; the case given a "good clean", bordering on polish. They're not the rarest of watches and you could probably have found a better example, but not at that price. Talking about the price, it might well be full retail but it will be a lot less painful when you see what these will sell for in 12 months and they're not about to dip in value. Well done.

@w154 - I was discussing this issue with a military watch collector a little while ago. There was a person who wrote up about getting a JLC WWW, and according to them, this was the rough pricing at the time, four years ago:

A Versatile Gent gave this price list ($USD) one year ago:

And we then come to the recent Watches of Knightsbridge (WoK) auction earlier this month. Some of those sold were Dirty Dozen watches. The following were hammer prices in GBP, excluding and including the 20% premium:

* Lot 151 - Lemania WWW - 1800GBP, +20% = 2160GBP
* Lot 153 - Omega MoD Dial WWW - 1100GBP + 20% = 1320GBP
* Lot 154 - Omega Original Dial WWW - 1800GBP +20% = 2160GBP
* Lot 155 - Eterna WWW - 1800GBP +20% = 2160GBP
* Lot 156 - Longines WWW - 3400GBP +20% = 4080GBP
* Lot 157 - Cyma WWW - 1600GBP +20% = 1920GBP
* Lot 158 - Cyma WWW (Relumed) - 1300GBP +20% = 1560GBP
* Lot 159 - Record WWW (Relumed Hands) - 1300GBP +20% = 1560GBP
* Lot 160 - Vertex WWW - 800GBP +20% = 960GBP
* Lot 161 - Timor WWW - 700GBP +20% = 840GBP

Obviously, WoK has some obscene prices, though the Vertex and Timor were within the 'high' price range for those models.

In terms of appreciation over the last 4 years, the range has seen an increase in value of anywhere between 2-5x.
This now means that getting even one is a hefty chunk of change, and the Grana probably rivals some 321 Speedies in terms of value and rarity.[/QUOTE]

Hi.
Mine say's Hi! as well
It's still in the sorry condition I bought it three years ago on a car boot sale.
When I have the funds I will have it faithfully restored.
There is history on this watch as it served time with the British troops in Malaysia in 1946.
Yours is a nice looking watch, wear it with pride.
Joe.
