    Hi all

    Let me introduce myself, I’m Dave, I’m from the UK and I’ve wanted a nice vintage omega for about 6 months now. I saved and did my research and decided on the omega Dirty Dozen from 1944. I Iiked the idea that it could have been worn during WW2. Any way I’ve jumped in and the below is my new (old) beauty.

    I think I’ve probably paid a little over the odds but I don’t mind that as I’m not looking to make money out of the purchase I’m looking for enjoyment.

    From my research, looking on this forum, along with other website I’m pretty sure that the watch is real, and that the dial, hands, font on the back and movement are all correct. However as I’m new and the watch can still be returned for a refund I thought I’d ask you all for your opinions.

    On a side note I’m now saving for my next watch, the 1953 fat arrow!

    In advance of all you reply’s, thanks for taking the time to give your opinions and advice.

    Are the original fixed bars still there... I only ask as the notches in them look slightly odd.

    Yes I think they are. At least they are fixed and the notches seem to be old deep scratches where an old strap was cut off, well that’s my guess.

    Cool. It looks good then. Can I ask how much you paid, mainly just to see if you were "a little over" or a lot over. These are plentiful so you shouldn't really have yo overpay.

    I paid £2,000.

    I’ve seen them for sale from £1600 to £3000 but I suspect the £3k is more wishful thinking. The ones for lower prices seemed not to be original or in poor condition.

    I think that's heading towards "a lot" over.

    It seems like a fairly good example, but it's not spectacular and you could probably get similar for a fair bit less. There's been some paint touched up on the dial too I think, certainly the 12 seems to have patches of newer paint on it.

    If you do decide to find another then look over on MWR. You'll need to register to see the sales forum. Some very nice ones have sold there in the 1200-1400 range in the last six months.

    Really that much over, hmmmm education can be expensive! Not sure I can return it because it was over priced! I guess I’ll have to suck it up. At least I can be confident it’s not a fake that’s what I was worried about. I’m happy to own a bit of history and wear it on my wrist!

    Thanks for you help/knowledge and I’ll definitely check out MWR forum for my next purchase.

    It would be a bit unfair to return based only on price, especially if the seller described it correctly and fairly.

    If you're after a 53FA in the future then MWR is a good bet as they come up for sale reasonably often. Also it's a "no BS" forum, and anything dodgy listed for sale will get shot down promptly by the members.

    Dave: I'm posting a pic of mine just for comparison regarding dial condition - I believe mine is unrestored. My numbers are similar to yours: 10685339 and 10258822. With the size as it is, I enjoy wearing my 30T2 as a comfortable change from chronographs of around 40 mm. I have seen a few being offered at unrealistic prices and they are usually over-restored, something I think especially undesirable in a military watch. I hope you enjoy owning this one and that it'll soon have one of those 50s 'brothers' you mention.

    The dial does looks in great condition. Just got one myself, but haven't received it yet from the OF sales sections. What strap are you using?

    If you’re in the UK and bought from a professional seller located in the Uk or EU and the purchase was remote (internet or otherwise), then EU regulations on distance selling mean you have a 14 day « cooling off » period to change your mind, no questions asked. You have a right to return and should exercise it, there’s nothing unfair about it.
    Enjoy it while it lasts.

    I cannot speak to authenticity, but that is a great looking watch. Congrats! :thumbsup:

    Out of curiosity, what are the case dimensions?

    Hi all and thanks for the reply’s.

    I don’t think I’m going to send it back, I actually really like it! I’m keeping it also as a permanent reminder that i need to spend a bit more time researching and inspecting before jumping in and buying.

    Anyway I’ve had a really close look at the dial and looking at the colours it looks like the 12 has been touched up, once on the 1 and once on the 2 and then maybe the number 8 but that’s it. Unless it’s a really old complete redial that’s then been touched up that’s all that looks repainted.

    Last one sold in local auction room was £1960 inc buyers premium so £2k isn’t really too much in comparison.

    Link ?

    Last one on MWR was around 1200, but to be fair that had a MOD minty lume dial. Still I reckon 1200-1400 should easily get one comparable to the OPs. This isn't to poke fun at the OP, rather to try and keep buyers educated and keep rampant price inflation in check.

    To the OP - lovely watch you have there! You now have the pleasure of having an Omega that is military and has a black dial. Certainly desirable features.

    @w154 - I was discussing this issue with a military watch collector a little while ago. There was a person who wrote up about getting a JLC WWW, and according to them, this was the rough pricing at the time, four years ago:

    8827a9d7-1613-45eb-9d51-1424ba05253d.jpg

    A Versatile Gent gave this price list ($USD) one year ago:

    www.jpg
    And we then come to the recent Watches of Knightsbridge (WoK) auction earlier this month. Some of those sold were Dirty Dozen watches. The following were hammer prices in GBP, excluding and including the 20% premium:

    * Lot 151 - Lemania WWW - 1800GBP, +20% = 2160GBP
    * Lot 153 - Omega MoD Dial WWW - 1100GBP + 20% = 1320GBP
    * Lot 154 - Omega Original Dial WWW - 1800GBP +20% = 2160GBP
    * Lot 155 - Eterna WWW - 1800GBP +20% = 2160GBP
    * Lot 156 - Longines WWW - 3400GBP +20% = 4080GBP
    * Lot 157 - Cyma WWW - 1600GBP +20% = 1920GBP
    * Lot 158 - Cyma WWW (Relumed) - 1300GBP +20% = 1560GBP
    * Lot 159 - Record WWW (Relumed Hands) - 1300GBP +20% = 1560GBP
    * Lot 160 - Vertex WWW - 800GBP +20% = 960GBP
    * Lot 161 - Timor WWW - 700GBP +20% = 840GBP

    Obviously, WoK has some obscene prices, though the Vertex and Timor were within the 'high' price range for those models.

    In terms of appreciation over the last 4 years, the range has seen an increase in value of anywhere between 2-5x.
    This now means that getting even one is a hefty chunk of change, and the Grana probably rivals some 321 Speedies in terms of value and rarity.
