My First Seamaster! A surprise from my wife.

My wife surprised me with this watch today. I don’t know much about Seamasters but it works perfectly and I think it looks nice. I put it on a black strap for now. Watch is 34 or 35 mm in diameter and the crown winds smoothly, even if it looks old. I am not comfortable with opening it. I will get it serviced soon anyway. I think this makes up for forgetting to wear a watch yesterday. She paid under $400 CDN at an auction. This is the obligatory blurry photo for new members seeking a value for their grandfather’s watch.

Congrats! I think she did very well there. Lovely watch (late 50s 2846?), always nice to have gold furniture in a steel case. Have it serviced, get a SS clover crown for it and wear the hell out of it.

Also, I gotta show this thread to my SO. 😁

Your wife has an excellent eye and instinct! All it needs cosmetically is a bit of Polywatch on the crystal.

Yep I vote model 2846 also. Looks like a sweet deal at the price. You both did well.

Wow very nice gift indeed. Is your wife a collector, or did she just make a lucky purchase?

Fabulous! Does anyone have a correct crown for this man?!?!

Yes, but in the EU. I think we can do better than that. 😀

Pure luck. The last three watches that she bought all work. The ladies watch in the photos below is a white gold Bulova with diamonds. She just liked the look of them.

She is not a collector and often looks at my watch and asks what kind it is.

Like one of my colleagues who asked his wife what kind of car she wanted. Her reply was “a white one?”.

The Seamaster is a nice response to the last watch that I bought for her… the gold and diamond cocktail watch will certainly limit the wear on the Bulova!

Oh, and after 30 years together, she still lets me watch as much (American) football as I want. (CFL ball in photo. I don’t follow CFL but the footballs make good armrests!) She prefers the football that we call soccer.

Wish my wife would buy me a nice watch!
Nah, mate.
If she did that, whenever you wear a different watch she’d be asking, “What’s wrong with the watch I bought you? Don’t you like it?”

I love the Seamasters from this era. My patinated and soft cousin, wearing the clover crown the team are talking about:

That’s really nice @Duracuir1 shows your wife pays keen interest into your likes. I really like that example I had one, might have been the same year but the dial got heavy yellowed (highly patinad) over time and it just didn’t grow on me. Although my wife stays away from omega (which is fine she wouldn’t know what to really look for) she does pick me up vintage Bulova, Caravelle etc if she is at a tag sale and sees some. I always appreciate that. Doesn’t matter if she spent five bucks or she gets it home to find the watch doesn’t work it’s the thought. I know “it’s the thought” gets thrown around a lot but it’s definitely true in my case. Your wife sounds like a lovely lady and I always notice in WRUW guys are showing off beautiful watches their wives got them. It’s just as well my wife doesn’t as most of the time I don’t know what the hec I want until I see it, might as well point this thread out to her anyway just incase.
