« Not real fond »?
Pity as it’s a cool watch and that replacement crown looks perfect.
For the record, here are some screen grabs of that Ebay link @X350 XJR found as it will eventually age out.
I think he meant he isn’t fond of the padded cheap strap.
Or maybe he meant the watch- it’s not to everyone’s taste.

Yes that was my gripe. No gripe with the watch, I mean it’s small but that was the era so I have no issues with that. I probably could have hunted around at his store find something a little better strap but it still would have been 18mm and on the cheap side. They were actually packed with people buying valentines gifts I’m sure they are desperate for the business as they had a rough go during the shut down (like so many other small business) I just grabbed it so I could get out of their hair.

I’ve noticed on smaller watches like these, that the impulse to get a “heavier” strap to bulk it up is actually counter-productive, they make the watch look smaller. A slim, unpadded strap with a heavy taper (like 17-14) make the watch head actually appear bigger and more prominent.

Ah, now that makes more sense.
Here’s a nice flat vintage strap. But the color may be a bit bland for gold, perhaps some kind of a maroon might be better, but this one would do the trick for a while it seems?

thanks @Syrte have you tried these? It would be interesting to try one but I’m wondering if in that price range they might be to cheesey.

Haven’t tried them, it’s true there’s always a risk that they be dry and brittle.
One nice alternative would be to have one made-
I know a sweet Italian craftsman who makes lovely bespoke straps for prices that are well below a lot of the off the shelf stuff. I used him for odd sized open ended straps, such as 15mm wide (colorful straps below), or a 13mm wide double wrap strap he did quite masterfully. (On the gold watch below).
Happy to pass on his contacts.
He’s very fast and reliable.

So i got a little funny thing going on with this mathey-tissot. I brought it up to another member here but it’s getting kinda funny so I figured I’d give you a brief run down. I do like the look and lugs on this watch but since it’s smaller, it might be 35mm with the crown but barely I put it up for a local F2F sale. I listed it at 625 which is probably a little on the high side. It was only up for a day or two and I got an offer for 500. I think that’s realistic and fair it does have some spotting at the dial around the three and it’s not the original crown. TBH I wasn’t in a rush to sell it so when I told the guy I might accept the 500 offer I didn’t rush in getting back to him so he began sending me several messages a day. Two times i told him via message I really want to see the watch go to a collector and not be melted down. I asked him what his intent was but he didn’t give me a straight out answer. I have no clue how many grams the case alone weighs but I think it’s about 22grams including the movement so it may be reasonable to think there is over 10grams total minus the movement. As of yesterday gold was 55 bucks a gram. I don’t look a 500 bucks as a little bit of money but I’d rather not see the watch destroyed after getting it serviced and cleaning the crystal etc. maybe I shouldn’t care, what am I going to do interview everyone who makes an offer, if I ever get another offer? So bright and early he sent me a message through the sales place to call him. This is my first free minute of the day I’ll probably call him tonight after work. Just an odd position to be in really maybe I shouldn’t be so concerned. Guess I’ll make a decision tonight. I will just use the money to pick something else up. Although dummy me told my wife about the situation and she is already claiming a hundred bucks if I sell it for tile work we are doing. Actually 105 she said she should get what I put into the watch but I’ll see if fifty bucks makes her happy, probably not.

edit 14kt gold was 55 a gram yesterday at least I think it was
