Could I ask for a little assistance? I am going to ask my watchmaker if he has any contacts that may have the original crown for this but I’m just going to guess it won’t be found. In that case what does one normally do when putting a service crown on a 14k gold watch? Would I suggest he try to find a 14k replacement, or at least some type of gold to make it look similar? I’ve only had one gold watch prior and never needed a crown for one. Gold plated? Gold tone?
Usually, crowns of gold watches are not solid gold.

You need to be very lucky twice: First to find out which crown is original and then second to find such a crown. Personally, I would be satisfied with just a nice looking crown that doesn't disturb the look of the watch.

"In 1969 and 1970, Elvis Presley bought several dozen customized Mathey-Tissot automatic watches for giving to family, friends, and staff, the purpose being to identify the wearers as having a privileged right of access to Presley's concerts and tours. For this object, a bezel setting was created with the name ELVIS PRESLEY in raised letters and four stars.[6][7]"

Holey Moley!!
Different dial but case looks the same, priced at $1,000. Quite a find for $5.

Here's a photo of the Elvis watch I found googling around

This is the crown on the watch I posted the link to.

You might want to look at complete movements from scrapped watches on eBay, sometimes they still have the stem and crown attached.

Honestly a plain gold-filled one will be just fine.

Has anyone received their package from @Walrus yet? I checked the mail and not here yet. I'm sure we're part of his privileged group for his concerts playing bass.

I guess mail is slower out here.

He told me that we are all to go into our local Rolex AD, walk up to the counter and say “The Walrus put me on the list”- then wink and smile creepily while swaying back and forth.

I owned a couple of Mathey-Tissot watches some years back. Nice looking, good movements, ran well. I think I would remember it if the crowns on them were embossed, and so they were not. Just plain. May not have been original, of course, but they suited the watches just fine.

Good find, I’d say.

Yes and thanks for that link. I wouldn’t have known if mathey tissot used a stamped crown had it not been for that. Like I said I’m in the process of seeing what can be done, gold filled sounds like a good idea. Your link also showed me it’s not a bad idea to sink some money bringing it back to life.

Oh ok got some good news the movement is serviceable and gold filled crown has been located. Will go ahead with repairs. He even gave me the discounted price which I didn’t expect as I’ve slowed down on brining him things lately due to not buying gifts for family

I always wondered if an Elvis impersonator could become so popular he would have impersonators,
I might give it a try

About ten or more years ago an American Elvis impersonator was charged with armed robbery in Canada after being ID'ed from a police artists sketch.
He was later proven innocent.
Apparently the police artist in question made all his sketches look like Elvis Presly.
The impersonator only vaguely resembled Elvis but the police sketch looked exactly like Elvis.

Sketchy story...

Ok got it back. Had to put on an 18mm crappy band. The lugs are 17mm. I’m going try to order a soft 17mm leather band. Not real fond of this one but anyway it’s running and looks interesting. I’m glad I saved it from being melted down.

Way to go Walrus!! That’s a smart looking watch. There are a few vendors that do 17mm, something slim and reptile perhaps.

« Not real fond »?
Pity as it’s a cool watch and that replacement crown looks perfect.
For the record, here are some screen grabs of that Ebay link @X350 XJR found as it will eventually age out.
