So I found this mathey tissot at a place I go seeking watches. No crown, I have no idea how bad the movement is but I really like lugs figured I’d give it a whirl see if it can be brought back to life. I don’t know a lot about this brand, I know they aren’t a value proposition but I think the lugs alone make this worth of attempting to bring back. Anyone have any info on these, I figure it’ll be a couple hundred to bring back. Excuse the bad pics I’m at work bad lighting.

Great looking case. Not so sure about the dial, possible touch up? Could just be the reflections on the crystal.

I just put a natural light picture up. Doesn't really look like a redial but it very well could be this is the first of this brand I’ve held so I know less than nothing

Cool lugs, dial looks original.
I picked up because of the lugs. Found them very interesting. Just realized it’s a 14k gold case. I think the guy made a mistake as he is a gold scrapper probably would have gone in the melt bin had he seen it.

Well someone may pipe in eventually if they know anything about the watch. If you are like me and don’t know mathey-tissot I was reading a bit of this
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathey-Tissot
apparently Elvis bought a number of Mathey-Tissot to give away to friends so it’s quite possible this one was purchased by the king. I’d say highly likely at this point given the three minutes of research I just did

That solves it- this is one of the Elvis watches given as a gift with a Cadillac- where’s your Cadillac??!

Between this Elvis watch, Fred’s Roy Rogers watch and Dave’s Picasso watch- this forum is just nailing the celebrity watches.

"In 1969 and 1970, Elvis Presley bought several dozen customized Mathey-Tissot automatic watches for giving to family, friends, and staff, the purpose being to identify the wearers as having a privileged right of access to Presley's concerts and tours. For this object, a bezel setting was created with the name ELVIS PRESLEY in raised letters and four stars.[6][7]"

Holey Moley!!
Different dial but case looks the same, priced at $1,000. Quite a find for $5.

Sold this one years ago, 14K as well.

That’s a beaut but you always sell the nice stuff. I see some of their old divers are very nice looking as well. Several very nice looking watches made by mathey-tissot over the years and I have heard and seen them just never knew much about them. I’m hoping by next week I’ll have an idea on if it can be repaired and for how much. Kind of hard to figure value, I’m not planning on selling it just would like to factor it in on repair costs but I’ve learned things are usually worth what people are willing to pay, I’m not sitting on a Rolex or an ounce of gold here. Just a cool little watch.

Looks like Walrus finally got lucky. 👍
I don’t know now I feel like I overpaid. I should have got him down to 4.75.

Well just dropped this at the watchmakers see what’s what. I’m hoping the movement is workable. I highly doubt I will ever find the original crown for this so as long as I find something workable that will be fine. Meant to take another daylight picture but all I have now is the receipt saying I dropped it off. I’ll be curious to see how this works out.

Could I ask for a little assistance? I am going to ask my watchmaker if he has any contacts that may have the original crown for this but I’m just going to guess it won’t be found. In that case what does one normally do when putting a service crown on a 14k gold watch? Would I suggest he try to find a 14k replacement, or at least some type of gold to make it look similar? I’ve only had one gold watch prior and never needed a crown for one. Gold plated? Gold tone?
