This is a Forum where we can debate (instead of running and telling Mom…),
This is not quite correct. The mods have mentioned on many occasions that reporting a post is the proper way to deal with inappropriate posts. My impression is that they don't really want us to get into a back and forth about it, either in threads or by PM.

I agree, I don't think there is an exception to the 24 hour rule for answering questions. Although the OP can always edit the original listing to add information.
I don't think this is *always* done with bump intent, we're just conditioned to reply instantly.

I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule here (apart from I agree replying to every comment is wrong) . If a member is selling a watch and people genuinely think it is special, rare or under appreciated etc etc I don’t have any issue with them highlighting those points. It also helps people less experienced. Also if people have had good experiences with the buyer and want to highlight buying from this person is likely to be positive and safe again why not. Regarding photos of other watches again it is all about the context for me. If someone has the same watch and thinks it looks great in a certain light, setting or with a certain strap, and they post a photo to show it then it’s fine in my book. I think there are enough experienced regulars here to highlight when things are going off the track without too many complex and bureaucratic rules. I also think we then run the risk that the sale threads start to get very clinical and stale. If I can have some fun and learn while someone is selling why not.

As an aside…… with this amazing timepiece ever sell……

First and foremost, I agree completely that posting photos of another watch in a sales thread is poor form. Who needs to see that, and who needs the potential confusion?

On the other hand, I’m surprised that a comment announcing that an item has sold is viewed as a gratuitous bump of the sales thread. Almost by definition, the item no longer needs any promotion and the comment from the seller is purely an expression of appreciation. It’s certainly sincere on my part—selling here is vastly better than using a platform like eBay and the forum lets us do it for free as long as we follow the one-post-per-day rule. I do want people to see that an item they might have been interested in has sold AND note the courtesy and gratitude for the forum and the community here.

That said, users should understand that commenting gratuitously on a sales thread does have an affect on other sales threads and a hearty “like” accomplishes the same thing. The seller should note the same thing—just “like” comments and leave it at that. The mods are not fooled by commenting as a strategy to get around the 24-hour rule and members who engage in it should be named and shamed and run out on a rail if they persist.

Being ridden on a rail was typically a form of extrajudicial punishment administered by a mob, sometimes in connection with tarring and feathering,[1] intended to show community displeasure with the offender so the offender either conformed behavior to the mob's demands or left the community...................... Well that sounds fun / sign of a healthy community ;0)
