I'm not really sure where your argument is headed, sorry.

Given the W10 is rarer by a factor of 3-1 and also much harder to find in good condition and in full-spec it 'should' be more valuable than an 0552 of equal provenance and condition.

The one sale you reference is I presume the 205 which sold for £69,700, without an extract too...which until the Phillips sale of the 0552 was far & away the most expensive military SM300 sold...

Last year Bonhams also sold another W10 with several issues, most notably a civilian dial for £25,000.

So yes, a full spec no issues W10 at £26,000
is very soft.

In my opinion.

Well... considering all the sales i have followed the last ten years , i simply doubt that a W10 is worth more than a 0552 in the same condition. Only because a W10 is rarer (BTW, the factor is rather 2 to 1, exactly 2.3 to 1) does not compellingly mean it is more valuable.

However, the market will decide... I am pretty sure we will see some further sales in near future.

Citing prices historically over the past 10 years is meaningless as the value of any military SM300 was not anywhere near what we are discussing.

I would be interesting to hear your formula for calculating such a precise delivery ratio?

The whole point of my post is that the market has decided.

The £69,700 paid for the Bonhams W10 is the most expensive military SM300 sold to date and it's a W10.

In all spheres of collecting be it watches or anything else, all other factors being equal, rarity will increase the value as it becomes a simple matter of supply & demand.

When comparing the value year by year there was/is no real difference between W10 and 0552.

750 0552s vs 325 W10 gives a delivery ratio of 2.3 to 1. Taking only the watches into account that surfaced over the last 10 years I even get to a ratio of 2.1 to 1.

The whole point of my post is that the market has decided.
That's exactly my point too.

Yep, narrowly followed by £67,800 for the 0552 from Phillips.

In all spheres of collecting be it watches or anything else, all other factors being equal, rarity will increase the value as it becomes a simple matter of supply & demand.
Without a doubt that's the generall rule for collecting. But some other, difficult to determin factors play also a role. How about myth? Maybe some collectors prefer the 0552 because a divers watch delivered to the Navy (SBS) has a bigger myth to them as one delivered to the Army (SAS)? Who knows. Besides that, faked Mil SM300 are usually W10s, so that might scare off unexperienced collectors?

Please don't get me wrong. I do not intend to disrespect your opinion in any way. I just have a different one. 😉
