Damn. That stinks.

It is not just sapphire crystal though. I broke my hesalite crystal on a moon watch 2 years ago. Dropped it on the pavement while taking my watch off to show to a friend. It actually was a spectacular thing to see. LOL. I could laugh about it now but I peed a little in my pants when I saw it hit the ground.

Damn!! I feel sick even reading this, can't imagine living it 🙁

A side benefit of wearing a nice watch you really love.... a few times I have hung back and reviewed the machine/situation in a bit more detail without diving into it hands first.....My wife says I worry about watches more than my hands.... So don't wear a beater watch / wear your best watch at all times......and keep all your fingers :0)

Well one thing is for sure - NASA were justified in not wanting to have Sapphire crystals on their astronaut's Speedys!

@3nicewatches I have fallen into that trap myself … but having looked into it recently 99% the NASA selection (in terms of Hesalite) was more luck than judgement..

Wow, DIV that’s a real shocker! How much did the repair/service cost?
Looking on the bright side, you are now probably the best placed person on OF to shoot some killer macro photos of the dial, hands etc. I’d be keen to see what the rear of the dial looks like (manufacturers markings etc), that’s not something many of us would get to see otherwise.
Did you get any nice photos of the stripped movement parts, you know, like this:-

And I thought this was the reason for no sapphire in space 😉

Well, this is the perfect time and to tell my sad, sad story...
My boy dropped my 3573 at least three feet onto a tile floor. Miraculously, the only damage was a small ding in the bezel and some loose hands.

Wife wears her watches on the right wrist, me on the left. If I had know I might not have married her! Means I always need to walk down the street on her left.

Have done it all too often. Walking down the street, casually talking then bang... I always blame her obviously but guess it's 50/50. 😀
