Longines grand prize lume question

Hi all,

I have been on the hunt for a longines for a while now and found this Longines Grand prize in a lovely antique shop in St. Malo, france.

I was first drawn to the hands and the sunburst dial. However the hands, while lovely, do not have any lume on them. The indices around the edge do have lume.

I asked the dealer and he says he thinks the hands are original.

Did longines make watches with lume on the indices, but not on the hands ? To me, that doesn't make sense as you can't tell the time in the dark.

You would have a pretty floresent circle to look at though...

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Alex

The price is 680 euro , for anyone who would like to know.

Sorry for the terrible photos. I am not asking for a full dial inspection so I hoped they would be okay.

The centers of the hands are simply missing their lume, they should not be hollow like this.

Case is polished, price is high.

Thanks for the help there !

I thought it was a mad idea to have lumeless hands. I admit i kind of like the look of the hollow hands, but it woukd forever bother me knowing that lume was supposed to be in them.

sorry but I disagree, hands are much too short. They can't be original ....

T SWISS T at the bottom of the dial indicates that lume should be present in both hands and dial.

That was the thread I used to find what the hands should look like when there is lume on them.
I think X350 XJR's original analysis seems likely to be true. Still odd that there is not a trace of lume on the hands anymore.

I agree as well. It's quite pricey for what it is.
