Final message for tonight.

This thread has another 22297 that's a redial/refurbish with the same subdial font. Picture repasted here for reference.

And if the plot wasn't thick enough, a very reputed seller has just offered me a Tri-Compax without specifying model no, year etc. (that information is on it's way....)

Just an image for now. I can already see that the font of both the logo and the chrono registers of this model that's been offered to me is almost identical to that of the one that STO put up (not to mention the lack of red hands on the date register).

Again, love to hear your thoughts about whether these are all redials (if this is indeed a 22297, it might be a different reference?).

Just to reiterate, they (seller) haven't specified anything to me other than that this is a Tri-Compax (not called it original, etc.) but I am speculating this is a variation of the 22297.
Can't help, but I don't like the printing. Also, lumed hands and non-lumed dial is quite uncommon.
Have you seen, that the date hand is incorrect?

Update: Correct hand is there, but counting the hours. However, the current date hand is not UG.

This is large pushers case, not small, so assume it's not a 22297 series.

I'm not assuming the dial from @Richard G is a redial, however it's not the type normally seen in this case, so I don't know what that means.

The Compax from STO and the above example are both redials IMO, and I don't see exact similarities between them, or the one from Richard, so I don't see any direct link or relationship between these dials.

Yes, I did notice that the date hand was incorrect and mentioned this in my observation. Good point about the incorrect combination of lumed hands with non-lumed dial. Must always remember that one....

The seller did refer to it as 22297.3.

This was the description of the watch (and I quote): "It is a 22297.3. 35mm, Cal. 281 just overhauled. Lovely, even patina throughout"...

Regarding the redials. Yes, there are no exact similarities. I guess the point I was making was, while there are numerous differences between all of them, the one thing common to all of them (if we consider all 3 i.e. Richards, the one offered to me by a "reputed seller" and STO, as redials/refurbishments ) is the font of the numerals in the hour chronograph register....).

Anyway, I have hijacked a thread about beautiful Tr-Compax examples with talk of redials, so I will create a separate thread for something else that I've just seen...(or offered)....

there are two other 22297/3 examples on the previous page, you can see the typical small pushers. Perhaps this example offered to you for sale is a 22297/3 case with replaced pushers, but would need to see a photo of the caseback to verify the reference. In any event, given the dial is redone, not especially important.

So with apologies to those who’ve already seen it, this thread seems to be the perfect place to memorialize something that happened this past Friday…. a long-overdue get-together of my Tri-Compax with those of my friend Matt. The combined collection included every conceivable metal (14k yellow gold, 18k yellow gold, 18k rose, steel, etc) from the 1940s-1960s; square pushers and pump pushers; smiling moons and silver moons; as well as two Evil Claptons (one mine, one his) and Matt’s most recent addition, a mesmerizing “Exotic”! Oh…and a few UG Gay Freres bracelets, not to mention solid gold (both yellow and rose!) bracelets to boot!

You can also find a quick video of the combined collection at the link below (via Instragram, where I’m also @MarktheTime and Matt is @dandywatchman.

Aside from references that are “unobtainable” these days to mere mortals like a Patek 1518, for example, I still have yet to find a vintage watch reference that (across SO many exquisitely beautiful variations!) so consistently sets my nerdy heart a-flutter - and can still be found out there at somewhat “reasonable” prices in relation to the rest of the vintage watch world. IYKYK…If you know, you know…

😀

What an orgasmically good combined collection.

I am glad I follow both you fine gents on insta (where hopefully one day soon one of you will express your desire to sell one of these pieces!).

I think it’s safe to say these are keepers…but stay close to your favorite device. Ya never know! 😉 In the meantime, thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!

Yes, I know they are keepers. You'd be nuts to sell any of these....except if you level up and a better watch than the one in your current possession comes along. If/when that happens, my finger is on the trigger!

Good to know! I tend to fall in love with these and, while I have sold one or two over the years (both times to members here!), I generally have a very hard time parting with these beauties. Matt, on the other hand, is much better at continually evaluating and upgrading his pieces. He’s probably SOLD more Tri over the years than are included in the picture, which blows my mind. But he’s got some awesome pieces to show for it. Evil Clapton, Exotic and those solid gold pump-pusher examples! 👍👍👍
Anyway, stay tuned - ya never know! (oh, and what’s your name on Instagram?)

Yes Larry…as you well know from your own UGs!
Yep, soon as I decide to sell, I freeze.
