Insane. Not complaining, but insane.
Just for posterity....

there were some "bonkers" results at this auction . . .but for me this takes the cake as most nuts result by far

"I bought this mint condition Tri", "I bought this mint condition Tri from Phillips"

B confers more status and provenance than B... And that's why people pay these insane premiums.

Yes, and I recall not having understood neither at the time if those watches left the factory like that, or if it was happening afterwards. In the first case, that's a hell of a QC defection, and in the second, I was wondering if it is possible without an external cause.

Still haven't understood anyway 🤪
Yea ... I remember that one but I thought we had a UG Forum discussion too. Perhaps not.

This is a very original, unpolished UG I once owned and it had those same "scratches" on the inside of the lugs....always puzzled me.

I think this is clear from what people have already said, but just to re-iterate, these marks on the backs of the lugs of certain refs are part of the manufacturing process. They can be seen on 22279, 22502, and probably others, I cannot recall offhand without research. As an interesting aside, I wonder if all these refs (with the metal seam) came from the same case manufacturer, or not?

Assume this is also obvious, but it's not that you will find some 22279 and 22502 with these marks, and some without. It did not happen after they left the factory. They were there from the beginning, and I assume they would be present in ALL cases (although I haven't actually researched this), unless the manufacturing process shifted during the lifecycle of a case ref (another interesting research project).

The marks/lines on the lugs could very well be casting marks; not unusual to cast case mid-sections and stamp bezels and case backs.

I hate to admit my ignorance. Never heard the song! My parents were more into The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bee Gees, and Elvis.

Just listened to the song and lyrics. Very cool! My user name is just a happy coincidence.

Came to this forum to discuss watches, and got a music introduction as well. ☺️
