Lego addiction… am I the only one!?

Yup, as the title says, I am starting to realize that I am developing a Lego addiction! Not that I have 100s of sets already, but enough to pay for a nice Speedy nonetheless.

What’s worse, is that I am now sometimes buying two sets: one to build (or “for my son”) and one to stash away!! 😲

Here are some of the current sets I have out, but more are back in the closets (mostly LegoCity from my son) and I still have the massive orange Technic GT3 RS in the reserve, alongside Bond’s DB5, etc etc.

Am I the only one who has developed this sickness!? I doubt it… but getting counseling from my fellow OF members will surely help!! 😁

My 5 year old loves LEGO and my wife and MIL went off the deep end. They buy bulk used stuff from people for pennies on the dollar or sometimes free. We got that same Porsche for like $20. I also have that Millennium Falcon, X-Wings, the Benetar, and about 800 other sets. My house is covered in LEGO it’s like a war zone here. My basement is destroyed. My 3 year old tears sets apart and they get scattered everywhere. And yes we watch LEGO Masters. My MIL has even more at her house including a 4 foot long “Titanic” they build. Save me!

Got my oldest the new Artemis rocket and Mars lander sets for Christmas so tomorrow will be a build day.

My wife broke down a bunch of the Lego 'displays' this past week because she was tired of seeing them accumulate dist (and they are not easy to clean/ clean around). It was a few cars, including the Fiat, one of the rocket sets and a space shuttle. She smartly avoided the marque display, which includes the Apollo and the lander. There is a large space shuttle about 1/3 done staying out of the way on a stereo speaker 😁

We’ve also been to Legoland in King of Prussia twice. Very cool place for kids. They have huge models of the city of Philadelphia and a 4D movie theater. The city changes from day to night and everything is lit up. Bonus, there is an Omega Boutique at the KoP mall.

Love LEGO Technic. Just found the Unimog in our storage today and got the McLaren F1 for Xmas. Need to dig out my original sets from 35 yrs ago.

I have that same Ferrari model. I have a r1200gs one. Slave I is good too. I have a little boba Fett figure.

My biggest is the star destroyer from early 2000s wit the magnetic panels, about 4 feet long fully built. But I've only built it once and put it back in the box.

So of course we have buckets and buckets for my son.

When the Apollo rocket came out I was ready to pull the trigger.

So here I was at a friend of Mrs STANDYs and the newlyweds had a nice house with a heap of Lego builds like all above scattered around the house (with a bit of dust on a few of the older builds up on high shelves.) some nice modern expensive cars like the Ferrari and Porches and other items.

On the way home as soon as we get in the car “What’s with all the kids Lego stuff everywhere” “so glad you don’t have any of that in the house”

Suppose I am allowed to have expensive wood for knife handles dry in the house.
And in the background a childhood Tonka truck made it on a shelf.

Enjoying the Lego you guys have In proxy 😉

Yes, certainly not an inexpensive toy!

And yes, they end up catching dust on the shelves… which is actually my biggest grief with modern sets: you complete them once, and you are done.

The initial concept was more of a “take a container of bulk parts and see what you come up with” vs. these “scripted sets”.

I just need to fight the addiction now… 😁

I will trade you all of the LEGO in my house for one of your Speedmasters and you can build to your heart’s content. Let me know. 😁

This thread is fast becoming an episode of "Hoarders" mixed with an as-yet-to-be-aired series tentatively called, "The Secret Lives of Nerds".

Come on fellas... doesn't anyone just go into their damn garage, drink beer and talk shit about humans while taking the occasional break to chuck a hunting knife at a poster of Justin Bieber and step outside to urinate by the recycle bin anymore?
Ya know, simpler times?

I loved lego as a kid, and still have all of mine. I enjoyed breaking them out and playing with them with my own kids. Now they are boxes up and someday I hope to play with them with my grandkids. Until then though, they will wait in their plastic tubs in my shed.
