See in this price range for $1k or so a TAG Heuer Quartz doesn't do much for me at all, and it would just never get used as its not as good as all my other watches. The Apple watch is a different slot with different features for different purchase, it doesn't compete with the Daytona or Sub, therefore it doesn't have to lose out to them.
This is exactly how I came out on it in the end ...

I am a certified Apple GEEK (by that i mean i have everything Apple) ... will i buy the watch... Nope! Why? Because i have a phone that practically does everything for me except wipe my arse, do the cleaning and the washing up!

Give it 5 years when no more updates will come and the watch no longer runs and Apple no longer stock parts for it OR leave it 6 months and the iWatch 'S' will come out with "even better features" and it will look exactly the same!

Apple is the king of selling the same shit twice!

All hail mechanical!! 😀

P.S please don't message me with your Apple product issues! lol

Ah but what about while you're driving? Texting, shazaming, phonecalls, everything here that's banned on a phone (fine plus 3 points) is legal on the watch 😉

And payments for food without having to get out your phone, and the ability to use touch drawing to send crudely drawn penises to your mates, and maps on your wrist while driving and walking. I think its going to be good fun 😀

Anyone thinking about the 'classicly sized' 38mm ? I am so 50/50 on this thing, but I think smaller might be better for me (esp if I double wrist ... 😕 ) - not sure how much of a tool I will look like that, but on a daily basis, I just can't not wear a mechanical!

From what I've read, the 38 feels quite small for actual usage. I have tiny wrists and went with 42, considering this a gadget first and foremost (and therefore function over fashion).

The important thing to keep in mind is that the 42mm is not 42mm and the 38mm is not 38mm. Apple measures this vertically from lug to lug as it were, not the traditional diagonal width measurement used for watches.

The actual widths are 33.3mm for the 38mm and 35.9mm for the 42mm.

There's also been a huge amount said of the thickness of the apple watch and how chunky and tall it is. Both the 38 and 42 are 10.5mm thick, which is over 1mm thinner than my Rolex 116520 Daytona.

Not for long. Those jurisdictions that have these laws will figure this out soon enough. I can't see someone getting off on a case of distracted driving resulting in injury by claiming "Oh, it's not a phone, it's a watch". If they do, it will happen only once. Fact is, it's a cellular device regardless of where on your body it is located.

Even our ridiculous traffic court system in Florida isn't that stupid.😜

Here you can be charged with distracted driving if you are distracted...it does not matter if it's by a phone, watch, radio, or eating a burger while driving...

So many people die each year by being distracted while behind the wheel (or getting hit by someone who was) I agree that if there is any loophole, it won't last long, nor should it.

I'm sure the iWatch will sync via Bluetooth with the car or your phone and phone calls can be taken through the vehicles sound system hands free

Its not a whole lot different from the accepted hands free systems which are legal, raise wrist and press side button to answer, or to wake up Siri and get her to fire off a message or shazam a song. I just happen to own a car too old for any decent phone integration.

Speaking of waiting, I ordered mine right when pre-orders opened and black steel on link bracelet was June delivery right off the bat, even though its likely to be the slowest selling of the non-gold watches due to its price. Now its already July for new orders of the black steel and June+ for almost everything else including ALL sports models.

I can't believe the prices of the watch. I have a couple friends preorder, I'm a gadget guy and all but this I'm going to take a pass. The pricing for the stainless at $1k is laughable. I don't see how it goes from $650 to $1099 for the bracelet. In a couple of years, they'll change the design slightly enough you can reuse the bracelet and have to shell out another $1k. The economy must be doing well in the US. The avg pricepoint for majority of models is $700+.

Its $1630 for the black steel on link bracelet here in AU 😀

The Applecare is where it gets nuts. Applecare on the 18K models is $2300 AUD, then that entitles you to two accidental damage incidents that each carry a $1500 fee. So in theory you're paying $3800 for a 2 year extended insurance policy on your watch.
