Is this watch worth full restoration?

Took this watch into an Omega store here in Canada and was told it would cost approximately $1800 Canadian and 8 months to fully restore like new. I guess it's sent to Switzerland to be fine. I was also told if restored it'd be valued around $5000. Looking for opinions if people think this is a good investment. I think the watch is 1958 and it's gold filled. Watch works perfect. Also I only paid $5 CND for it.

No! Just take it to a watchmaker who has experience with servicing vintage watches and give it a service for app. $ 200-500.

The watch in it's current state is worth around $ 500-1000 depending on location and sales skills.

If you got that watch serviced by Omega for $1800 it would be worth less than that when you got it back.

Find an independent watchmaker with an Omega parts account and pay the roughly $500+parts for a full service.

99% of people here would not send a vintage watch to Omega in Switzerland

definately not 5000 usd when restored!!
Looks good as is, no need for restoration.
Good honest service and maybe a new crystal would be all that's needed.

Five dollars? What are you trying to steal my thunder? 😁

Seriously though, you scored big time and please follow the suggestions given already. I see there are signs of life as the watch hands are in different positions in the various pictures so my guess is the movement service and polishing of the crystal will run on the lower side, perhaps around $200. 👍

The 5000$ estimate after a restoration is... optimistic. Wouldn't be worth half that if it was solid gold. Well done for asking here, 1800$ can be burned with a lot more fun involved.

You can possibly buy NOS hands. Crown looks a little off colour, but can only buy plated ones nowadays, so not going to be a 100% match to the case.

just need to find a good watch maker. Doesn’t need an Omega parts account as Perkins in Toronto should have most parts if needed. However. Depending on the movement. Some parts are discontinued.

As it’s working. Most likely just need a cleaning

Even if the pope blessed that watch. It wouldn’t be worth 1/5th the Omega appraisal

nice watch and well worth the price paid
