Got what I think is a legitimate Omega Seamaster Aqua terra 2503.33, and would like feedback---agree or disagree. The bracelet appears to be a junk replacement, and also wondering if I could get a used genuine Omega in the ~$300 range.

thanks,

Clay

The watch head and movement looks correct to me. It's easy to google pics of the movement to compare. And, sometimes you'll even get a similar view angle.

Thanks for the taking the time to respond, and the tip regarding movement pictures. I think the bracelet model is 1574 898, but I don't think I have permissions to post on the WTB page, despite having been a member for a couple years. If anyone has a 1574 898 bracelet they are willing to part with, please do let me know.

Thanks,

Clay Ose

One more thing - most of the older fakes I've seen didn't get the coates de geneve on the 2500 movement as sharp, nor did they even bother to do perlage on the main plate like the real thing. And they were just cheap Asian ETA clones where they only decorated the rotor. HOWEVER, some newer fakes of the 8800 movement and newer are much more impressive looking, so you have to not just look at screw placement and colors but also the balance wheel, hairspring, regulator, and balance jewel to catch them.

The bracelets are not cheap from a 3rd party NEW, at £499 https://www.swisswatchspares.com/pr...-terra-20mm-1574-898-steel-bracelet-2503-2517

Hey all, I was having a look at the attached but looks like it just sold on ebay (first photo black background) It looked like a redial to me (?2x swiss made, quality of writing/dots) but would love to hear your thoughts compared to other images of the same model ive found online.

Good people of OF!

I'm hoping to confirm if this is an authentic watch as I don't have the model to review other examples against.

The sellers claim is that it is all original in NOS condition with box, papers and original band.

Love to hear you opinions including potential value

thank you

Patrick

Thought Ike leave this here for posterity - owner stated on eBay that it was a replica, but 58 bids later it went for AU$1,575. I thought the replicas were only a few hundred bucks. Looks pretty sharp, so worth checking out if you want to compare with a possibly legitimate one you see on eBay. Original listing here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333580036801

Edit: it’s been relisted

I just bought my first Planet Ocean recently and I did lots of research here on how to spot the fakes by just photos only. With this particular 8900 movement in the photos, the balance wheel and bridge area are huge big give aways, none of the fakes are doing free sprung movements yet that i've been able to find. After that, look at all the jewels and you will see some are missing the pivots, which means they are just for decoration only.

I suspect people got caught off guard with there bidding because the seller only mentions it's a fake at the very end of his description, but not in the title of the ad.

one of the way to tell as far as I am aware for the super clone 8400/8500 models is the balance bridge, also if you search the serial number exmple; omega 88998668; many replica sites will pop up.

Thanks for the heads up on the bracelet! One other question for anyone. I noticed that the crown only gets screwed in about a little less than one revolution between when the teeth of the screws bite and when it is set and won’t turn any more. This is very different from my other seamaster(turns a couple revolutions), and seems odd for a waterproof diving watch. Should that be concern about authenticity, or am I being overly concerned? I would take this in to a dealer if not for quarantine, but.....

Bad answer ... he knows it is a fake, and make a picture of it and publish it on Facebook??? That sounds stupid... in addition, I should not trust him as a seller ...

Seems original to me, but ... the value of a vintage, despite it is original or not, is lore related with the original and matching pieces (example, original bracelet or not; original hands; etc), condition (NOS is never used, but sometimes people say Nos to a vintage in excellent condition), not parts changed (even the replacements are omega parts), etc

that watch seems original to me, but it is only the first step. You should check if it is really in NOS, if the dial is not repainted, original bracelet or not, and so on

Value of this watch should be 0. It is a fake watch, it is not legal. It should be banned from ebay. If it is sold, the buyer probably will try to sell it in the future ... as a replica or trying to sell it as original ... that’s a shame.

Probably some buyers placed a bid without reading enough the description. That’s the reason for that price I think (and I want to think it).

for an inexpert eye, watch with good quality (on pictures), and warranty card seems to be original ... and that’s dangerous

Hello all,
Rec'd this watch from my father, pretty confident it's real, but not sure what model. Knowing him, has to
be lower end?
Anyway, any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like a reference 166.0174 and appears to be in excellent condition.

If you intend to wear it you should have is professionally serviced.

Thanks a lot. Yea, don't think he ever wore it.
Is this the same as the Geneve - just missing that on face - or completely different model? I had hard time figuring out with no indicators on the face.Planned on taking to get serviced at some point, but wanted to check here on info.
Appreciate the quick answer.
