Well, looks like to me, the scratches on the Serial Number was done by purpose!
the scrathes look on purpose indeed, but the serial number engraving looks a bit shallow to me compared to new seamasters ive seen. can that be a problem?

Well, to me it not the matter of the font of the SN as much as it is concerning to me: Why the scratch is there particularly on SN!!!

Believe me, when you buy a luxury item, you want st the end to enjoy and relax rather than buying something could be not legit or stolen or fake 馃榾

is this seller in the same Country? if yes, you can drop a visit and check it 馃榾
cheers

Hi there,

Newbie here! (and also new to forums so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place) I've just purchased a used Omega Speedmaster Reduced - I've had it checked out by a watchmaker, who says it's genuine....but I'm worried about the second hand - which looks too short compared to all the pictures I can find on the internet. I have an option to send it back but it'll be costly. What do you think?

The second hand is too short but I'm more inclined to think the wrong part was fitted in service than its a fake.

Ah, that's interesting - many thanks for looking. Hadn't thought of that. I presume hands are changed when a watch is serviced? Most other things seem to check out, but I'm a bit suspicious as I've never bought used before, bought this from abroad, and there seem to be a lot of fakes around - some of which have incorrect length hands. There are a couple of other odd things - on the inside, on the shiny part between the dial and the crystal, there is an long, irregular white patch at 10 o'clock - as if chrome has been scraped off white plastic, exposing it... The crystal doesn't look quite like the ones in internet pictures - hard to describe how - just looks more domed and less flat, seems to refract the light differently.... It's a 598XXXXX serial number, which is on the case back, not the lugs. All the ones on the internet that I've seen have the serial on the lugs.... I do love it, so want to keep it if I can, but want to make the right call on this - I still have a few days to send it back if I choose!

Serial number on case back is correct.

Post some additional photos including the case back.

Also do a google search for "Speedmaster reduced".

Here are some pics - sorry, they're a bit rubbish - do they help? I'll get a proper camera and do some better ones later if not. In the last pic, you can just about see the strange white patch at 10 o'clock. (The seller said the watch is '99 roughly - but I didn't think they made this model till later?)

Bracelet clasp looks like 'Speedmaster' is stamped rather than engraved ... maybe I'm being paranoid but this watch doesn't quite look like the other 3539.50s I can find pictures of....different hands, different crystal and different bracelet clasp....

Having recent purchased a lovely genuine Seamaster, I thought I would dig this piece of fakery out of the drawer for everyone to feast their eyes on. 100% fake, if you were blindfolded and handled the watch you could tell immediately without seeing the usual obvious signs, namely poor quality and rough feeling bracelet, the dial, the hour markers, the poor quality engraving on the back of the case, the lack of number on the lug, the lack of paperwork, the ETA movement.....I could go on. Anyway, enjoy.

I'm a newbie Peter, apologies for my ignorance but how do you know it's fake, what is the dead giveaway?

The bezel seams like it麓s angered outwards, date window and text does not look right. Backside of watch is also wrong. Google DSOTM and compare the pictures and I麓m sure you will see. Have a look and get back with your opinion.

Yes, just checked a few pics and the rear looks completely different. Another dead giveaway I presume would be the lack of correct boxes and paperwork, which, on a 拢5k plus watch you'd certainly expect to see.

For what I could see it was a box from Longines... I hope my rapport to Ebay security went through.
