Is this the new Speedmaster?

I'm really looking forward to my new 3861 sapphire, I'm also encouraged by the prospect that with the smaller links, it may actually fit. Quite frustrated waiting for it, my AD, who I've dealt with for almost 40 years, advises me that all of the products coming out of Switzerland are on back order and with a fraction of their workers actually working and the demand being so heavy, everything seems to be in slow motion. Apparently the sapphire version is the best seller of the 3861 Speedmasters. They've offered me a really decent price trading my 1861, so I'm going to have to wait it out. Anyone else waiting on one? I can go see a Hesalite version, but I've seen enough pictures from forum members to confirm my choice. I'd love to FEEL one, but it's a 2 1/2 hour drive in either case, just have to be more patient. Everything I've seen or read indicates it will be worth the wait.

I would also appreciate the part number for the nylon strap that comes with the hesalite 3861. Thinking about ordering it for warmer weather.

+1

Also, does anyone know what kind of clasp/buckle is used on it please?

Considering the age old discussion whether to choose a hesalite or sapphire and never having handled a hesalite speedy has Zenith done a better job with this domed sapphire crystal giving it more of a hesalite feel?

Looks like the sapphire on bracelet is available on the US site now. I'm hoping my 3861 comes back from service soon. The service center said it would covered under warranty.

To fully wind the Speedmaster so you have the full 50hrs power reserve, does it stop winding when it reaches its full or is there no real way of knowing ?

You'll know when it is fully wound, BTW I'm getting 64 hours.

I guess it's just a case of winding each morning so there is no risk of it running out during the day

I' m not afraid of running out of power by not winding it daily, the only reason I do wind it daily is to get the least gain/loss a day.

Yes, it's a very definite stop at full wind.

Are you sure about that? Power reserve is only listed as 48-50 hours, unsure how you could be getting another half a day out of it.

I got 65.5 hours on a full wind when I tested mine. I think Omega's numbers are conservative.

What are people's overall thoughts on the logo? Does it appear noticeably bigger than the 1861 or with a fleeting glance is it not noticeable? From pictures, my initial reaction was I didn't like a big 'OMEGA' and wasn't keen on the new 'PROFFESIONAL' not being the base of the 'pyramid', does that make sense?! Overall, I like the look of the 3861 a lot so probably wouldn't be a massive issue but just thought I'd see what the opinions of others was. Thanks.

I thought I didn't like at first either, but then I saw it in person for 10 seconds and didn't notice the difference after that. IMO it's a fairly small change that you can get used to in a matter of moments.

Ok I’m quite sold on the new speedmaster. but I have the 1861 now and would like to keep it. The plan is to keep the 1861 as a beater tool watch that I wear daily to my job (I do a rather hands-on job), and the 3861 I would baby more and wear it in leisure or on holidays. does this make any sense? Anyone doing this? Or does it make more sense to sell the 1861?

What version of the 1861 do you have ?

If it's going to get wrecked at work, sell it on, let someone else enjoy it.

If you're going to wreck it and repair/maintain it adequately then that's a different matter.

If it's just there to get wrecked then chucked in a drawer when it eventually fails, then wouldn't you be happier doing that to an Invicta?

It was the same for me, after agonizing over the decision, I had decided for the Sapphire, but the few that came into the OB were already pre-sold. They had no idea when they were getting more. When I got the call to go in to see the Hesalite, it was love at first sight. It literally took me seconds to go for it (and apparently I was the first Hesalite customer in my city, bonus). The more I look at the Hesalite now, the more I am happy the way it worked out. I do prefer the all brushed bracelet either way, and the applied logo is a non issue for me, in fact I like the printed logo better.

I was chasing the Sapphire purely for a more robust crystal, (and the secondary benefit of seeing the movement), but I'm not really missing those now that I have the Hesalite. In fact I love the way the dial looks through the Hesalite - the warmth, the distortions.

I did manage to scratch the Hesalite within 5 minutes of entering my house though - banged it on a wall, which was a major bummer. But not the end of the world. It can easily be polished free of charge through the OB they tell me.

I guess what I am saying is that maybe the 2 1/2 hour drive may be worth it, and if you love the Hesalite, it might save you nearly $1000.
