Is this the new Speedmaster?

First unboxing I saw on YouTube
I like the new bracelet and new clasp design. Also the step dial is an improvement, the dial colour is darker black it seems, which is nice.
The other changes leave me cold.
I dont like that the numerals on subdials are positioned closer to the center, makes the subdials look kind of smaller. Also the new Logo text is a bit weird looking. The milky ring looks somehow even more pronaounced than on my FOIS.
Of couse one has to handle the watch in order to give a fair judgement, but from what i see in the video, i prefer the old one more.

Interestingly, it seems that all the ‚perks‘ from the old box are gone as well (Velcro, Nato, strap changing tool, ...)? Loupe might still be there in the travel box, as with the Snoopy.

Also now the big box for the 321 makes somehow more sense.

Feeling a little bit sea sick now... but great for him that he has one of the very first.
So I am still very happy with my 2020 Speedmaster and the big box. Adding the new sapphire is not really an option for me due to the still very prominent milky ring...

Wait. What?! Is this already available for buying?!

The watches were available the same day they were announced.

Interesting. My AD apparently wasn’t even formally told they were coming out yesterday until the official announcement. They had none is stock and couldn’t even tell me when they’d see one.

In any event, I bought their last hesalite 1861 Speedmaster . It’s been on my radar a while - I get a pretty significant discount at this AD, figured I’d pull the trigger while I could afford it. Plus it’s easier to tell my wife “look, we could spend x now orrrr I could spend x+2000 in 6 months.” Excited to finally be in the Omega group! Thing looks great next to my Black Bay.

Re the unboxing video:
“Things just seem sharper and clearer....Fuzziness on the white hands of the previous version” What is he on about?

I like the travel case though, very smart.

Ok i need some help please. First post so go easy!

My first Omega (deville) was a surprise gift from my wife and I love it and what it represents. I have now been given the green light for another watch and this time my wife is letting me pick. So in typical fashion i have researched it to death (which for me is part of the fun). Now after weeks of deliberating watches and reading forums and articles i have arrived at the Speedmaster Pro. The journey went from Brietling Superocean to Seamaster 300 to Speedmaster (plus all the research on hesalite versus SS). So I am all set to go to AD and pull the trigger on Speedmaster Pro (sapphire) and a new model is released. What to do? AD said he will hold the old model and new model (when it arrives) for me to decide. So the question is assuming you could walk out of the store today with either model (& wife is supportive of the extra $ which she is) what would you go with? New or old? I really had no idea of caliber movements and what a dot over 90 was 4 weeks ago but now all those things seem important.

For reference this watch will be kept and eventually handed down to my son - it could be my last Omega purchase (that said I would like to sneak a Seamaster in next!). Thanks for your help. Cheers

Since this is your first Speedmaster I'd go for the older version. If you get into the game you can pick up a newer version later.

I tend to agree based on price of admission to the Speedy club with the older reference.
It may be possible to get your money back on it in the fullness of time and then go for the new version with a discount at a later date if the urge takes you in that direction.
Just keep the Hesalite on a strap in mind for the new version. It will be a very nice watch in the flesh👍

I know a few people that have bought the new models on announcement day. And they have been spotted the same day in various ADs.

If the discount is the same, I would undoubtedly go for the new version, specially if you say it will be your last Omega.
Main reason: I love the new bracelet, and dislike the previous one.

I would go for the new version.
Better caliber, more accurate, latest tech, applied logo (deal breaker imo).
And don't listen those who say the 1861 will be rare and that you will be able to get your money back.
They sold literally a ton of them over the past.
You will be long gone before they go rare.

Furthermore, unless you're a hardcore speedmaster fan collector, you probably won't purchase a 1861 now and collect a 3861 in the near future.
So go for the newest version and forget about the "investment part" on a serial speedmaster.

Once you've got your 3861, you will still be able to collect a limited edition later on which is probably better than buying a 1861 now and a 3861 later. Too redundant.

Just my 2 cents 😀

I’d go 1861, then put the $$$ saved aside for a nice Seamaster later 😉
