Is this the new Speedmaster?

The old logo is way more attractive.

As I only have a modern Speedy Hesalite I haven't seen a vintage AML so whatever is on the new 3861 will be just fine for me.

Just wondering - what is wrong with the FOIS AML in your view?
I have an FOIS and think it looks stunning.

I think it suits the watch it's on. If my eyes were loupes I might view it differently, I suppose.

It ain't like it's the supersized 300MC logo, the forelegs of a gigantic Kraken, poised to pounce and swallow the watch beneath...馃槈

Any reliable word on release dates for these versions?

Conversation from a few weeks ago with my OB, their estimate is late spring early summer for the new Speedmaster, until them focus is on the new Snoopy.

where is the massive eyeroll graphic - I am going to get one of the older ones but am conflicted with it as it seems between this and their previous statement about not supporting auto racing because of environmental impact its just like groan...
Can you elaborate about the auto racing comment?

Omega said they don't support it?

I'm sorry, did someone say Sedna Gold Speedmaster?
Swoon.

They're so close to selling something that's close to the original moon watch, but neither of these is accurate. The sapphire version with the correct dial has an incorrect crystal, and the hesalite version has an incorrect dial. So close, but so far.
Sounds to me like you should just go for the OG ::stirthepot::

That's what I did... but to really get the best of both worlds I went with Hesalite 1861 and Racing 9900 馃槈

The Racing series is nice but its the manual wind Speedies for me.

Having the Hesalite 1861 already I think the only way I'll buy another Moonwatch is if and when Omega decides to do the obvious: a Moonwatch that looks and runs exactly like the Speedy that went to the Moon... same case, same dial, same movement, same everything. What are they waiting for, toying with all these "close but no cigar" variants...

I鈥檓 going under the assumption they will never do that.. but I think we can bet on a sapphire, ceramic bezel, 321, exhibition caseback professional case. Which might be close enough for me

Someone should just buy both Sapphire and Hesalite and switch dials....Problem almost solved

A cheaper swap I might make is to put the sapphire case back on the hesalite version.

I baffles me to think how much easy money Omega *doesn't* want to make by not doing a true Moonwatch remake. We all agree it would sell like crazy, and they could basically ask any price they want... 10K... 15K... I don't care, perceived value of such a reissue would be so high, it's like an instant gold mine for Omega, it would absolutely crush, much much much bigger than the EW321, not even in the same vicinity in terms of market reach and sales potential. Maybe they're saving that for a rainy day?
If priced low with moderate availability, you'd probably get the side effects of alienating a lot of collectors and torpedoing vintage watch values. Low availability, and people will flame Omega for using "Rolex tactics." Priced high (10k-20k), you'd alienate a lot of customers who would complain about the price jump as happened when the Ed White re-edition was announced. Depending on the aesthetics, you'd have people harping on and on about "faux" patina or the lack of it, even when lume from that period was typically creamy when new. And regardless, you'd have a lot of people complaining about Omega lacking creativity rather than working on future classics.

Bottom line: No single release is going to please everyone. At least Omega is offering a multitude of options staggered at various price brackets.

Would the new speedmaster with sapphire crystal have the milky ring?

That's a pretty good solution but then you need the AML dial and maybe use the case back from a 1861 005, I have a 3592.50 with hesalite in front Saphire in back and a beautiful 863 movement along with a Tintin with the proper case back in red letters! I do appreciate the DON bezel insert, stepped dial and the AML on the new 3861 but to not have the AML on the Hesalite and to have changed the case back to be PC along with the price increase...Is upsetting though understandable from a certain point of view.

The small bit of skepticism I have for the new watches is on the fact that they haven't been tested in space...yet. I'm very sure that will change in due time, and it will have every right to the speedy pro name as the rest of the lot.

Apologies in advance if it was already discussed but does anyone know what will happen to the "big box"? Will buyers still get the loupe and the extra straps?

They do mention the "special 'Moonwatch' presentation box" in the leaked PDF, so I would be assuming that it is the same big box currently provided.

Saw this earlier on a similar thread on a different forum. Interesting to see the outgoing and new versions side by side.

It looks like the 3861 has an updated and modernised version of the 1479 bracelet made of more solid non-rattling metal and probably doesn't pull hair anymore.

Would it be possible to fit the new bracelet onto a 1861?

Also, I greatly dislike the changed case-back wording. I already hated the fact that the recent (2018?) and onwards ones say PROFESSIONAL MOONWATCH on the case-back, now by saying all human missions rather than manned just reeks of the "woke" political correctness that's plaguing every facet of modern society.

Every watch I've bought, I wore it immediately on the wrist and left the box & packaging at the store... but all of that was in the 20th century 馃榿
Nowadays people keep the boxes but I have no idea where Speedmaster collectors store those huge bootsize Omega boxes... in a garage box ?
There's only one box worthy for a Speedmaster... the little cubic Omega crater box
