Is this the new Speedmaster?

Not only was it COSC Certified, it had a vertical clutch and column wheel, was Co-axial, hacking seconds, and had 100M water resistance, all while being thinner than the standard Speedy, (thinner than the new 3681 too I think). All of that was available over a decade ago...

I was talking about a 1861 based COSC certified LE in the post that scapa replied to, but the point about the 33X3 movement watches being advanced (and all chronometer rated AFAIR) is what I was saying in my earlier point so I fully agree!

Yes I was referring to the 3201 movement in the 50th anniversary Speedy

Right, but that is also 33X3 based with the rotor removed ie F Piguet derived. There was a Lemania derived 861/1861 Speedy that came COSC rated too. I can't recall the ref but it happened!

There's an applied logo on the Sapphire Sandwich but printed on the Hesalite version? That's a real dick move.

Why not give it to both? They're pitching the speedmaster as a premium product, both deserve an applied logo. No printed logos ever went to the moon! Ok maybe one. Still, dick move. Makes the hesalite version feel like a budget version rather than something authentic to the original moon landings. Just there to be an excuse to upsize at the AD.

Apart from that, awesome to see the 105.012 case return. Speedmaster cases have been out of shape since the 90's. And the stepped dial! fantastic.

And that would be which reference (without AML, on the moon)?

so any thoughts now on what may happen re value to the outgoing model?

Here is my take. The speedmaster has been in need of this update. The model produced over the last 20 years is quite bland looking (white lume on a flat greyish coloured dial) with a bulky bracelet that doesn't suit the watch. The only reason I could see anyone choosing the outgoing model over this new one is if the price was significantly lower. It will be interesting to see what replaces the FOIS, I expect a massive improvement.

So that implies that in the EU the 3861 hesalite will be around € 6.200 including 21% VAT. 1861 hesalite is currently €4.900 including 21% VAT.

For the Netherlands, retail for the hesalite on bracelet is EUR 6.200 incl. 21% VAT. It was already included in Omega's latest price list (September 2020, valid from October 1st)

Can someone explain me what all the fuss is about with having an applied logo vs printed?

I wonder if they will replace it - or leave the Ed White as the straight lugged variant??

Well, for my part, I find an applied logo (and also indexes) simply look much more attractive and of higher quality on a dial. In addition, it corresponds more precisely to the historical model of a 105.012.

But in the end it is also a question of personal taste that everyone has to answer for themselves.

Agreed. If the AML is the exact dimensions as the FOIS's (which I suspect it will be) that'll be enough to put me off it tbh.

Technically the 145.022 was NEAR the moon.. it was on Apollo 17, but stayed in the command module.

Just wondering - what is wrong with the FOIS AML in your view?
I have an FOIS and think it looks stunning.

The old logo is way more attractive.
