Is this the new Speedmaster?

I predict people will either love this watch, or hate it, or think it's ok.

LOL. Finally, something I can agree with.

As for wanting several versions of the Speedy, I can understand the desire, but don’t share it. I collect and restore cars as a hobby and know people who focus on one or two cars and have several versions of the same car. Rick Hendrick loves Corvettes and has at least one of every model year and trim level. For some year models he particularly likes, he has at least one of every color offered that year. That’s cool, but not my cup of tea.

I prefer to get a thing and if I like it, the only thing that will move me to get another is if I find one I think is better in some measurable way. But then I sell the previous one because it’s not as desirable as the newer acquisition.

I like the new Speedy, but there isn’t enough there to move me to replace the Moonwatch I already have.

I like the new design. Curious to see the AML design, hopefully it matches the 60s applied logo and not the same as the FOIS. If they do make it the vintage AML, I would hope the crown reflects the same logo design and not mismatch the two...

It's going to be partially hidden for most of the time, anyway. ... 😀

So two different bracelets, if I don’t misunderstand: hesalite with totally brushed links, sapphire with polished and brushed links.

If your mother’s cat went on a space mission, having to pay the huge ticket price would be a catastrofee.

Eeehh, that’s not my mother’s cat. Who is this imposter?

It's a modern version of the Omega logo...

I’m assuming we have established this is a genuine leak? Any thoughts on official announcement?

I would have liked a microadjistment bracelet (as already said by other users) and a ceramic bezel (for the saphire model). Outside of that, I love this new version (if the leak is legit) and for sure I'll be getting one as soon as I can.

well that’s a shame. Curious as to why go to the effort of making a stepped dial, DON, and then use the modern AML?

they already use the vintage style logo for other speedmasters, kinda hoped they would carry it over. Oh well, hesalite it is.

Spoke to my AD here in Norway and showed them the leaked PDF and they confirmed the photos and specs are real. They also told me the hesalite will be about 14.000 NOK more expensive than todays version. Convert to your currency to see what the price will be in your country +-

For us Americans that's about $1600USD more.

Yep. The plan all along has been to sprinkle glitter on it and ramp up the price. By around 100% from 5 years ago at a rough estimate.

It'll get to the point before too long when those who crave a stepped dial, AML, DON etc should just pay for a 1960s model, the price of entry for modern and vintage is converging fast.

ps a Coax movement and stepped dial were available on Speedy Broad Arrow models about 15 years ago...

So that implies that in the EU the 3861 hesalite will be around € 6.200 including 21% VAT. 1861 hesalite is currently €4.900 including 21% VAT.

True, but which means what exactly? The 1861 was allowed out the factory running with pretty wide tolerances for timekeeping so it is about time they tightened up the QC on that score, MC rating isn't the be all and end all, its just more marketing fairy dust. There is an improvement in resistance to Magnetism built into the spec but unless you work with a Cyclotron I doubt you will see any advantage over COSC rating. I agree, it is great they have upped the certification but it is more of a recognition they had slipped behind the curve rather than a genuine leap ahead IMO.

I am giving them a hard time I know, at least one LE Speedy Pro was COSC certified so it could be done (why not all then) but I see the changes as justification for a big price rise rather than genuine improvements. Hey ignore me, I am sure the watch will be great in hand.

Interesting. I didn't know that.

I don't really worry about exact timekeeping on my FOIS. I mean, if it were running minutes ahead or behind every day I guess it would bug me, but for whatever reason I see it less as a "technical" watch than a beautiful timepiece that's unfussy enough to wear just about anywhere. That's part of the Speedmaster charm for me. It'll be interesting to see how or if a more more highly-specified and tightly-regulated movement nuances that appeal. I guess we'll know in a year or so, after these new models sell like crazy and there's a good user base.

Not only was it COSC Certified, it had a vertical clutch and column wheel, was Co-axial, hacking seconds, and had 100M water resistance, all while being thinner than the standard Speedy, (thinner than the new 3681 too I think). All of that was available over a decade ago...
