Is this the new Speedmaster?

What am I looking at here? Without a comparison to the new one, it is still hard to tell if there is a difference in lugs.

I must say, Omega has had fantastic leadership in the last 5 years. I am excited about these. No one is saying it, but I love that the caseback hippocampus is flush (or at least it looks like it is). I had to switch to a 145.012 service caseback because it dug into my wrist.

I've always been a hesalite guy, I wavered with the FOIS for a moment, but now if hesalite means no AML, I would go Sapphire.

I don't mind the simplified minute track (like the Speedy Tuesday 1). But I do miss the long indexes. I think the long indexes and applied logo are the two features that make a Speedy truely look pre-moon.

The lug facets are a different size and shape. The case side in these photos is easily comparable.

Evolve it does, but sometimes it is just plain silly. The word 'master' is now considered unacceptable in many places. Houston realtors won't even refer to the master bedroom any longer, now it is the primary bedroom. There must be a few people around the world who would consider the word 'Speedmaster' or 'Master' Chronometer to be unacceptable. And on it goes.

Texas realtor group says it will no longer use the word "master" to describe bedrooms and bathrooms in its listings - CNN

Yes, I'm sure from your perspective, this might seem silly. I'm not bothered by it, but we all view things differently.

I am amused by all the diehard hesalite fans now switching their allegiance to the sapphire sandwich model because it has an applied logo. Guess that pesky milky ring thing isn't so bad after all.

I have a hesalite Moonwatch which is great so it seems logical to get the Sapphire version that way I can enjoy both variants. The only question is whether bracelet (probably then add a strap) or strap.

Thanks. The new lugs seem a bit more complex in terms of machining and polishing.

A) I wonder if the old case back will fit the new watch?
B) F*** it I'm just gonna go buy some.
C) Is there a framed print/poster of the old case back Available? off I go to Look.

I would challenge this. If my mother’s cat went on a space mission, I would say that it was a manned mission (just manned by a cat)

If your mother’s cat went on a space mission, having to pay the huge ticket price would be a catastrofee.

My wife works for Highland Homes in the Houston area and told me about the bedroom name change.

Also the shapes of the 5s and the 9s are slightly different.
Not only that. 2 and 4 are very different. Furthermore, this looks like entirely different font. I am not an expert in vintage Speedmasters, but I think the new font is much thinner and much closer to the one used in vintage Speedies. Image credit: @djmusicman

I've been wondering that too. I would think with the price increase of the new model, that combined with this being the last "traditional" model it'll probably go up some initially and then level off once people realize that they made like a million of these over the past half century.

Omega's latest sapphire Speedmasters, such as the Apollo 11 50th and 2020 321s, haven't had the milky ring issue. Even if this is a different crystal, as Archer had noted, is unlikely that they'd put the milky ring back.

The mid case profile for the new Speedmaster will likely be the same as the Snoopy, 321 platinum, and Apollo 11 50th models. Both utilized what Omega references as their modern interpretation of the 105.012 case. (This terminology is also used in the PDF).

In regards to the AML, Omega will probably be using a modern one that uses the same profile as the Snoopy's AML. This is a modern watch, not part of the heritage lineup, so it wouldn't make sense to use the old logo.

The Apollo 11 50th looks the same as the sapphire sandwich to me, the 321 looks less milky.

it goes beyond the real estate market, in technology certain terms are being avoided as well

I wonder if this was partly NASA saying if you want to continue to use the flight certified language then you have to update it to our current style guide

regardless it seems some are fine with it along with the updates while others prefer the classic movement and engraving, I am firmly in the latter camp and am glad I placed my order today.

The new co axial movement, higher price, and changed engraving using terminology that wasn’t used in the time the piece was made famous just doesn’t seem special enough to bother buying, at that point I’d just get the sapphire model or save money and go with a more modern watch like the black bay chrono

This is REALLY exciting to me, if the new hippocampus is recessed and doesn't protrude out like the current generation's hesalite caseback. I've also had to swap out the OEM solid caseback for an aftermarket one, because of how painfully sharp that protruding hippocampus is to my wrist.

I love the new chronograph seconds hand. Thinner, and has a more elegant counter-weight design compared to the celery stalk counterweight of the current Speedmaster. I'm hoping Omega will work on the Planet Ocean next, and revert the counterweight on the PO's sweeping seconds hand back to that sculpted rhombus spear from the 1st PO.

Applied Logo-wise, I'm sure I'm in the minority but I would prefer painted Omega logo on the Sapphire. On its own, with no other applied markings on the dial, a metal Omega logo looks out of place. I think an applied Omega logo needs to be complemented with other applied parts of the dial. Like hands on the FOIS, or hour markers like we see on a Planet Ocean or Diver 300.

An applied logo as the stand-alone shiny feature on the dial, feels out of harmony with the rest of dial's painted markings.

Vintage Speedys with the AML are actually the most sought after (and the prettiest imo).

I am with you on this one. The vintage applied logo looks amazing. However, I am not sure about the modern AML. My preference is the printed when it comes to modern.

This is correct. Even when viewed from the side, the Apollo 11 50th crystal shows a milky appearance. Whereas, the 321's crystal is clearer.
