Is this legal from Bucherer?

So I've purchased a few watches from Bucherer and had pleasant experiences with them. However, we have had our name down for a Rolex LV for 14 months with the hope of getting the piece in time for our sons 21st birthday. I have had monthly conversations and updates regarding timings and reassurance that the assistant manager is doing all he can to meet the timeframe. Well it's within a month of our sons birthday so I contact the store and receive the news that there is a possibility that they can secure the piece for this week but now there is a catch... I have to purchase an additional piece of equal or greater value and of not of a desirable model, to which I was given a few choices ie, Bucherer blue editions or maybe the new Bremont? Well this has never once been mentioned before but as I've now apparently been bumped up the list this is what's required.... Surely this is blackmail?? Or at least under handed practice. My wife and I are devestated as you can imagine. I've written an email after visiting the store and actually being presented with LV and the choice of the additional pieces to which I declined and he couldn't of been quicker to put the Rolex back in the safe..... Any advice? Apart from, don't return to the store 😕
Tell them to go fυck themselves, and that you will never darken their doorstep again. What's so special about a Rolex LV anyway?

It's only special due to the fact that it's hard to get one these days, but it was not always the case and many sat in windows unwanted and quite right too as I think it's a fugly looking thing.

Yep, it wouldn't be my choice for a watch either, but others like it apparently.

Not the first time I've heard of this practice when wanting to purchase a desirable model. It sucks but they will have no problem moving your son's watch to someone-else's wrist.
I have encountered a similar problem with our local Rolex AD . It stinks

You have to buy a Bremont now that’s a new low .
It's a crime against humanity to force someone to buy a Bremont.🤮

Funnily enough, a post by Bucherer showed up on my wall today and I just could not keep me calm. I shared OP's story about the extortion the experienced at Bucherer on their post and funnily enough, they responded apologising and they asked for OP's name and the store location. So @To the moon, if you feel you wanna escalate the matter, now's your time 😀 Either chime in on the post or PM me and I'll forward the deets myself.
I have PM you 👍

So I received a response today from my email explaining our disappointment and how my wife was in tears when we left the store. I asked for an explanation and as to whether this was Bucherer's policy?
The ass manager replied inc...
"Rolex proffesional pieces are extremely difficult to obtain. When we receive stock we look to appreciate existing clients who have registered their interest and support our business.
The Carl F Bucherer proposition that we discussed really supports the business and would bump you up to the front of the list as we are always looking for watch lovers to be an early adaptor of the brand. The proposition of you purchasing the lady's DJ is just not a strong enough proposition to get you to the top of the register and we are obligated to look after the other pre-existing clients first

As it stands if there is no middle ground then you will have to wait your turn for the piece to be available

Kind regards

Unbelievable, I know!
I think this post has brought light to what many of us thought and now is actually the case... I'm not saying this has anything to do with Rolex's policy but it's got to be another nail in the coffin.... I am an avid collector of this and other brands but it's becoming easier to say "no thanks "to Rolex and the BS that goes with them!!!

There goes my stoic calm.. Disgraceful what they've done.

Reading my email, the Ass manager is emphasising how they wish to promote the Carl F Bucherer brand to watch enthusiasts, well...... They sure have hell managed that! Probably not get the desired results though

Poor spelling, grammar and sentence construction aside this should tell you, and everyone, all you need to know of the ‘true’ respect the Carl F Bucherer brand has for you (customers). Let your Son see this thread of how they have treated you and jointly vote with you feet. There are plenty of other suppliers and brands available, offering beautiful choices for a commemorative watch, and with vastly superior customer service and respect.

Seems they found the "sweet" spot between being a retailer and flipper, despicable.🤮

It's their way of trying to get the same profits the flippers are getting. Since the AD cannot sell higher than MSRP, they are leaving thousands of dollars on the table. They want that money, so making a customer buy another one or two watches will get them closer to the net they would make if they could sell it for the 'going rate' the resellers are getting. In my opinion this still all originates with Rolex, and the resellers are playing these games in order to stay financially viable in the short- to intermediate-term. Of course they will likely suffer in the long run, but if you cannot stay in business in the shorter run than the long run does not matter.

None of this explains or excuses Bucherer assuring you for many months (years?) that you'd get the watch you'd asked for, without mentioning the need to take a couple of dogs off their hands first! Screw 'em. Get a vintage, or used, or grey market watch, or a different brand.

Well, after reading this I will give up the idea I sometimes have of buying a Rolex. I'll be sure to avoid both companies like the plague in the future.

You are 100% correct. When I was in store and discussing the purchase, I explained that the additional piece was not to my taste, the conversation went straight to financial, he actually quoted how much the LV was being offered for on the grey, and that is what was required and I would actually benefit from not buying on the grey as I was gettin 2 pieces! I couldn't believe my ears 🙁

Wow! Just wow!
Actually I'm on Bucherer's list for a Rolex Yachtmaster. They called me yesterday but I didn't feel like answering as I've read your thread a couple of hours before their call.
After reading your update, it is clear to me that I won't get my Rolex from Bucherer. Actually I'm just asking myself if I really want to get a brandnew Rolex...

That's the watch I'm on the list for:
