I obtained the watch below for a pittance from a member here - advertised as a redial.
I'm happy to accept that it is indeed a redial, but I'm wondering, why would a watch be redialed with a name that the internet is silent about, and therefore would add no perceived value to the watch?
The serial number is 11061xxx, so that dates it to about 1960-1961.
Longines tell me the watch was sold to their agent in Iraq in 1962, but could offer no additional info. The quality of the case and the back give the impression it has had very little wear.
Has anyone ever seen a "Gis conquest", or in any way be able to shed any light on this?

 

It is a redial of course and perhaps the former owner has printed his name on the dial
