Is that a Submariner I see in the display…

yeah the sky dweller does look a bit too much on Jubilee. To be honest I am not sure I like the bezel either on a watch that size even though it is part of the functionality of it. I do like the dial and the compilations though. I have a similar back and for the love/hate relationship with the Yatchmaster II I wish it didn't have the name printed on the bezel....I mean....what's that all about?

I think all 3 took me by surprise. The Skydweller felt big and bulky, and although I have a lot of appreciation for the complications, just not for me. The Daytona felt great, just impossible to get at retail so off my list. The GMT, prefer the sub.

I’ll take the Wimbledon.

Exactly my thoughts on the skyD. I think you can get the TT Daytona with a little wait. I had a steel/ ceramic one some time ago and I think I prefer them in TT. I’d have that combo with the white dial also.

the one thing that struck me is that many Rolex watches now are larger than I’d like - the OP41 as an example is for me larger than a watch of that type should be. Probably largely why I have historically preferred the 5 digit references.

Strange that was the Daytona they had. Also the SD is on Oyster not jubilee

I haven’t gone out of my way to see one in person yet. But, in theory the SD in jubilee makes so much more sense than the oyster. A fluted bezel just doesn’t seem right with an oyster, either.

I’ve wondered about straps for it…

Do you mean just in the picture?

because otherwise this year they began offering it on jubilee. I’ve considered getting the bracelet…

My AD had a TT Daytona but black dial. I guess there’s bugger all point having a steel one to try on given you can’t buy one!

Yeah, just the pic as it was likely in reference to my initial comment on the SD.

I actually prefer the SD on oyster, but if I was going to get one it’d be the white gold model on leather. I really liked that. Unfortunately I don’t really have enough meat on the wrists to pull it off!

This watch does require wrist-meat.

just crazy when you go to a store to buy something and they want to buy from you

I had the same experience today. I was at my multi-brand AD to pick up a Christmas gift for my wife. Saw the exhibition only models in the Rolex section, so went to look. They had the new 36mm Explorer, and I was wearing my old 14270 Explorer, so asked to see the new one to compare. I liked the new version, so asked how long the wait list was. The salesperson told me they weren’t accepting names anymore, but told me he could probably offer me more for my old Explorer for more than the MSRP of the new one.

The situation is just absurd. Wish they would just charge market price already, keep the cases filled, and knock off the games.

Brilliant - we can buy your old watch off you but can’t tell you when you will be able to have the new one to replace it.

frankly, I’ve given up with Rolex. They are quite nice watches, but just that. I’d rather be able to buy a watch than beg and hope to get one.

just make the mrsp of a GMT £15k if that’s the market price, that would solve it. But Rolex won’t as they must love this ‘demand’ built up by flippers and social media.

Do the exhibition watches feel lighter than the real thing, since they don’t have movements? Or is there a faux movement/weight inside the case to match the weight of a real watch?

I guess that’s what it’s come to. My AD has a bunch of pre owned Rolex’s and Pateks…all at gray market prices. “No, we can’t sell you a sub for $10,000, but let me show you these lightly used Subs over here for $16k”…Ridiculous
In the UK Rolex ADs are not allowed to sell current models above list prices, but they can discontinued models

Encountered a very organized shop window in Vienna as well, recently. Expectation management under control. 😗

And this was basically my conversation with the sales rep (not my usual guy…it was his day off)…
Me: so I’m on the list for the Sub no date, but I really want to get on the list for the Sub date
Rep: oh, we don’t have lists anymore, it got too complicated and too many people
Me: so when you get a watch it goes in the display case?
Rep: no, we call our clients who have expressed interest
Me: so you mean off your list?

Someone is on that list but sadly it isn't me.

Funny enough, same thing is happening in the auto industry right now. We want to buy your car right now, but we can’t tell you when we will have a new one for you…here’s a coupon for a one way Uber ride home.

I can understand the production issues with new cars due to the shortage in semiconductors but what’s Rolex’s excuse.

Market manipulation? lol
Heck, even the Tudor case was empty at the AD's by me (Rolex and Tudor are next door to each other).

I just bought a submariner no date and really like it compared to the date. Much cleaner look and I don’t have to worry about setting the date!
