And this was basically my conversation with the sales rep (not my usual guy…it was his day off)…
Me: so I’m on the list for the Sub no date, but I really want to get on the list for the Sub date
Rep: oh, we don’t have lists anymore, it got too complicated and too many people
Me: so when you get a watch it goes in the display case?
Rep: no, we call our clients who have expressed interest
Me: so you mean off your list?
Yes!….but apparently for show only. I had heard Rolex was going to start doing this (display models with dummy movements). At least it was good to actually see the watches in person. Unfortunately still not attainable!
Those are the loneliest subs on the planet!

Even better. I was wearing this yesterday and stopped by a Rolex store to ask about a couple of things ( sky dweller and no date sub) no go but…. Do I want to sell my Daytona?
just crazy when you go to a store to buy
something and they want to buy from you
Btw, does anyone know the significance of setting the watches at 10:11 and 31 seconds? Seems all the dummy movements are set like that
Roughly 10:09:38 seconds shows practically every element on the face of most watches as clearly as possible (all hands, branding under 12, verbiage at 6, date windows at 9, etc.), while still having the hands in an upward, “perky,” position. Thus “happy face”
Other positions permitting similarly good views of the dial are possible, but would have the hands pointed downward in a “gloomy” position. A “sad face.”
As I understand it, brands have internal guidelines for their specific photography and display time, all roughly around 10:10 give or take.
It appears Rolex’s corporate position is 10:10:31, including in the AM for a GMT hand where applicable!
Yup this is new. Was at a Rolex AD last weekend. Thought for a second the inventory shortage was over.. haha. But have a new appreciation for the Daytona - a lot smaller than I imagined.
Me too - I was in my local AD and got all excited when I saw watches in the window with prices next to them! I missed the ‘for exhibition only’ however.
still, the latest sub looks nice and the skydweller on jubilee looked terrible to me so at least that’s one unobtainable watch off the list!
