Is a Seamaster 300 too big for me?

You just need some time to get used to it. 7" isn't a particularly small wrist. When I first started wearing a modern sport watch, it seemed huge, but now it seems normal. The downside is that any 36mm or below vintage pieces you have may feel really tiny when you go back to them. 🙄

Thanks! Funny you should mention it--my current one-watch collection is an Oyster Perpetual 36! I do have old-fashioned tastes, so the 36mm looks good to me. But to complement it, I want something beefier!

I gotta say, the no-waves dial is a nice clean look!

Another option would be to consider the previous model (glossy non-wave dial, solid case back with the hippocampus medallion and the 2500D movement). It’s it a bit narrower at 41mm and also a bit thinner. I actually had an opportunity to compare it with the new version and decided that I liked the older model better. Anyway, here’s what it looks like on my 7.5” wrist.

Hi all! At 42mm, is it too big for my 7-inch wrist? (Wrist-shot attached.)
I'm used to smaller watches. Should I consider a 39.5 Planet Ocean instead? I do like the price point and the technical aspects of the 300. Please let me know what you think!

No way, looks great on you!

It is. The new model is very nice, but I think that the prior version has some nice touches like the hippocampus medallion on the case back and the applied Omega logo on the dial that the new model lacks. And you can get lost in that inky black (or blue) glossy dial - it looks like it floats in the case. I think that the old model is a bit more of an all rounder whereas the new model is a bit sportier. That being said, as good as the 2500D in the old version is, the 8900 master chronometer in the new model is even better.

I like smaller watches too. Your 7” wrist should handle 42mm just fine, especially when it’s a diver. But I totally understand your skepticism. It’s weird I even think a 40mm sub looks a bit too bigger on my 6.5” wrist.

Ah yes, very smart, thanks! I knew about fisheye and the mirror trick--and the example posted by ulackfocus is eye-opening! I didn't have the presence of mind to take a mirror shot of the 300m at the AD. At the time, I wasn't seriously considering purchasing the watch.

Thanks again!

You will get used to it

I think you can pull it off just fine...

But what do YOU think? After all, that's what matters

I have both the previous non wave dial and the current wave dial as well as a 7 inch wrist 😀 the previous model is indeed going to wear significantly smaller - you should be fine with either just a matter of preference. The 42mm looks great on your wrist in the picture! Sometimes it will feel heavy and maybe a tad large but it is so well done the majority of the time you will feel it’s sized just right!

42mm SM300 on my 6.25” wrist. The modern SM300s wear smaller so you’ll be fine with 7”

I vote “No”. It looks fine. My wrist is slightly bigger than 7” and I think it is fine.

That looks great on you! Classic fit with a little bracelet showing on either side of the case.
